1.0 12V 1999 (x10xe) corsa - Chain or belt?

Post by gaborgya »

Hello everyone!
I bought a 1.0 12V (1999) corsa yesterday. Is it chain driven or has a cambelt? If it is cambelt driven I want to change the belt it immidiately as I do not know when it was changed last.
Thanks for the answer...

chains can still go slack and i changed mine at 50k cos it started rattling, but at least u get warning as with a belt itl just go like a bitch.

Chains only go if the oiling system is faulty for some reason...but they are supposed to be lifetime things...never have to change them! As its all self-contained and sealed they rarely go wrong. :)

unfortunatly its vauxhall saying there lifetime fit,

they did this on the vectra and when they started snapping they dropped it to 80k

they did the same with the belts on normal engines they first said 80k then dropped it to 40k

good ol vaux
