Tripple Info Display (TID or MFD)

Post by Octane2097 »

Been Looking at the wiring diagrams and found somthing intresting about the MFD (TID) or whatever you want to call it

first of all the TID (or the MFD whateva you want to call it)
one thing is i been having alook at the wires that go to it
1st intresting one is pin 5 a black wire which has the speed pulses like what your speedo uses
this i sort of already know because if ur driving and hold down both buttons on your display for about 10 seconds it will tell u your speed in KPH

second is Pin 8 which is a red/grey wire which carrys the data from your original head unit to the info display
this is why your date on your display disapears when your aftermarket hedunit is on, it was used on the original hedunit to display radio station etc etc
SO in theory if u wer to cut this wire, the date would stay on if your after market hed unit was on.......

of course i have no way of testing but if someone could it would be nice! it used to annoy the hell out of me when i swiched my CD player on and the date disapeard!

so in theory you could use that wire black wire to wire up to a speedo? instead of running a wire from the other place? think that would work?

hmm probably be more than just plug in and away but id asume so yeah
the digi dash the used to have on the old astra GTE worked the same way
there was only 1 wire to control the actual speedo, the rest wer for all the others like rev counter indicators etc etc etc

found this while browsing

http://www.rolandgruber.de/OpelTID_e.htm

intresting...
try pressing both buttons on the display for about 10 seconds and see if it works displays the speed
even the cable driven speedo's had an electronic rev counter driven by the same method (speed pulse signals)

My date stays on, the only thin I can thin of for doing this is: When fitting a head unit, I cut the blue switch lead to remote switch my amp, Date stays on.
