This might seem stupid but id rather be safe than sorry.
I was going to clean my engine bay and on the top of the engine there is this dark yellow layer, like a layer of paint, which is beginning to peel off slightly.
Just wondering if anyone knows what this is and if its safe to take it off when i clean the bay.
At first i thought it was just a layer of grime (dont think the engine bay has ever been cleaned [14 yrs old]), but when i had a closer look it was peeling off just like paint.
cheers x

Re: Engine question
Its some form of corrosion resistant coating, not important, its all aluminum and won't corrode rapidly with out it.

Re: Engine question
Its just a protective layer of wax, dont scrub 2 hard other wise you will take the paint off the rocker cover!
What ever i'll buy, it'll be a GSi
