urgent repair on a 2000 1.4L barina/corsa

Post by da_houghsta »

hi everyone,

well im from australia and my barina was in an accident in nov. since then the body has been repaired, although the rego expired. so it needs to go over the pits, im not sure how similar our departments work there to here (i assume most people here are UK?), but for various reasons i need the car to clear the inpection asap. i had a checkup done on it and they found a few (well a lot) of problems, most of which i cannot do myself so am getting them to do it tomorrow. however i can do some.

can anyone explain how i can adjust the handbrake? and also does anyone have a highish res pic of the drum brake assembly and how to adjust them. also i need to replace the licence plate light, but im not sure how to do that - do i need to take off the entite back bumper??

thankyou heaps and i will be doing as much tonight as i can (is 5.45pm here lol) as i wanna put it in early tomorrow morning.

The number plate light is straight forward, the lens and holder are secured with a metal clip on one side, release this by inserting something carefull done the side and it should all lift free fairly easily.

With out cheaking not too sure on adjusting hand break, if it has too much travel it may be possible to tighten it up from under the car, somewhere near where it meets the rear beam poss?

thanks for that - ended up taking the whole rear bumper off (bloody hard work when there is a towball installed!!), so now i know what u mean about how its clipped in - the hard way! lol. with the handbrake - i opened up the drum on the drivers side (right) and found there was a missing spring from the auto adjusting part so got a new one and installed it and feels much better now. had a look underneath to see if i could find the adjuster, but i didnt have a proper jack so couldnt lift it far enough to get under (plus i dont trust them jacks either!!). also put the car over the pits today and it passed so its all good yay!!

thanks again
