It looses power abit but ya can feel the engine juddering as ya trying to maintain ya speed. It will keep doing this till ya ease of the accelerator and the warning light go's out.

(example of what happened tonight...)

Aproching the bottom of a fairly steep hill @ 20mph in 3rd gear as cars were turning off in front, as the road cleared changed into 2second to get up the hill and then into 3rd as i reached 35mph. 5seconds later ya can feel the engine starting to judder and loose abit of power and then the engine warning light comes on.

Seems to do this tho when ya really need the engines power. Wired.
What makes it even more wired is that when it had a new catalytic converter it never did this for about 4weeks.

I personally don't think it's the engine it's self but think it's some senor possibly thats causing the engine management to go into it's "emgerancy running program" from the handbook.

Thanks for you support ;)

sounds like what happend to ours. but it just died 1 day, got rac out they said might be fuel relay, so they took the air filter off the housing and sprayed the inlet (with the butterfly flaps), cleaned it, started it, revved the balls out of it to clean the sh*t out and it was ok then no probs since. my relay was located behind the headlight switch think it was green bottom left. good luck, ask a mechanic if that would be at fault first (just in case).

hey i have the same prob with my 1.0l 12v... its fine when you accelerate gently but if you put your foot down it bogs down and looses power and the electronics light comes on... a friend of mine thinks it might be the air flow meter...
Gettin there...

Still having simmilar issues.

Purchased a £40 (after market) air flow meter and installed and the engine was always wanting to stall when ya tried to set off.

Then purchased a £70 (BOSCH) air flow meter and installed and now the engine warning light it contantly on and the engine will not rev when try to set off. (tries to stall). But seems OK once moved off.

Was woundering if anyone had anymore ideas as im really lost with this now :( . Gunna take it to a machanic on Wednesday but doubt they'll find a fault.

thanks

hey
ive been having the same problem with my car and was told it was the 02 sensor that needed replacing
so had it replaced and the car doesnt seem as bad now...just the odd time going up a hill although hoping its just the newness of it and that it'll pass

have you tried replacing your 02 sensor? because faulty sensors can lead to damaged catalytic convertors and i read that that was the case with you and you had it replaced
so putting two and two together this could be your problem
hope thaat helps

Update.

Car has been round at mechanics nearly 2 days now and they are still unsure on what it is but and coming down to that it's a possible faulty ECU :(

They put the fault code reader on it and reported that the lamber sensor was faulty and the air flow meter faulty. (Air Flow Meter testing no voltage).
They reset the codes and just came back with air flow meter faulty. Can't under stand as this does it with every air flow meter that the car is given.

They've said they are going to clean the EGR valve out to see if any difference (rule it out). The annoying thing is i'm suppose to be driving down to Cornwall for 2 week this Saturday and seems like mi car's given up on life. :(

Thanks anyways guys ..any response welcome! :)

I have a 1.0 12v Corsa Merit (1998) and when i baught it, the air mass meter needed replacing, at first i didnt know this but i later found out as my car struggled to find power and wouldnt drive up hills e.g. i was driving up an hill and as soon as i put my foot down the engine power dropped and the Engine electronics light came on, the car went up the hill at around 5mph despite going 30mph before.

I took it to the garage and the air mass meter was replaced. however i was informed that this would happen again because the engine for a 1.0 only has 3 cylinders (most cars having 2 or 4) this makes it apparently become unbalanced which confuses the air mass meter which will need replacing.

i had mine fitted in november and up until last month mine has started going faulty again (struggling to find power, engine rattling alot and lots of hesitation)

hope this is some help

Thanks for reply. I should av updated.

I got it fixed a while ago now. Was a long battle tho!

Turned out was my ECU which was playing games. Lieing about things to be faulty when they wasn't. Replaced it in the end after replacing everyother sensor.
