Gearbox Problem

Yesterday i was driving and went from third gear to first gear a bit too soon. For the next few minutes the car continued to drive fine, i stopped to pick something up, got back in to drive and it sounds terrible!! I've got a '94 corsa b n never had any problems in the few months i've had it, and now the leverage in each gear is minimal. When pulling off and changing gear the car chuggs enormously, i have to gently press the accelerator until it levels out.
I'm not much of an expert in these fields, so i haven't got much of a clue what's wrong!!

does it grind when trying to select a gear?
possible you may have damaged the gear linkages

unfortunaltly i dont know how to fix them or even get to it!

It grinded before when i tried to select reverse, now i don't have a problem with selecting gears, but i cannot drive at all when i'm in them. The clutch is also not working, if the car is in gear and i lift the clutch up it doesn't stall :S

when you let your foot off the clutch while down shifting did you get any feed back through the pedel, its definatly either the clutch of the box, either way they will both have to come out i would of thought

No there was no feedback at all, nothing. A problem with the gear linkages was my initial thought and seems the most probable cause. I don't even know where to start with this though. Any idea of the price if it's linkage?

My Gears were a bit stiff when changing gear and sumtimes when you put it in reverse it crunched and it did'nt always go into 5th 1st time bitting point was also very low on the pedal i thought it maybe the clucth cable needed adjusting seemed a bit slack to me, but the garage told me it was the gear linkage which they quoted about £210 all fitted.

Took it into a garage that a guy i know owns! Turns out it was the clutch, never would have thought! That's £150 smackers out of pocket! Guess it's worth it

glad u have it sorted, atleats u knew the problem in the end
could have gone to vauxhall who wud have charged £50 a hour to look at it and then propbably about £350 for a replacment (not including fitting it)

so dosnt seem such a bad deal

i once went to vauxhall for a faulty passenger seatbelt pre-tensioner they wanted £254 plus VAT and labour
so i did it myself £15 from a car breaker and it came with a free passenger seat lol

gear linkage are about £55 + vat + lab at your garage to have them replaced...

Adjusted my sons gear linkage on Corsa GSI, simple job couple of hours if your a novice diy mechanic. You need to remove the battery to get to the linkage at the top and work under the car for linkage from gear lever. Removal of a couple of circlips and a pin from under the batttery area and it's out. Good idea to replace the nylon bushes to tighten up any slack that may be there due to wear (just a few pence from Vauxhal). Haynes manual tells you how to ajust the linkage after replacement you just need a 4.5mm drill to insert in the adjuster hole in the gear selector lever under the battery and Bobs your uncle.
