well...easy option for quick power is the fuelling.
throw a set of twin carbs on it, and thats easy power. however you will need to cam it and port and polish the head. it's worth doing these first however as you may find these will improve it quite a bit, and you'll be happy to not put carbs on. an inlet manifold is also a good idea...popular ones are the diblas and the Lexmaul.
there's a whole load of performance upgrades available so look around and know which way you wanna go b4 you start

okaayy....well the c20xe/2.0 16v (i hate the term 'redtop') is a very heavy unit! the main problem is destroying your handling. You could spend big money on an x16xe and put throttle bodies on it, allowing you to hit 200bhp with the 1.6. or you could go for a 2.0 8v.
The C20SEH is a 130bhp unit as std, and wit a few mods you could easily hit the best part of 180-200 bhp. It is waay lighter than the 16v and also easier to work on!
A turbo will only kick in after about 3k as it has to spin up in order to force the induction. It sounds to me like you're after low down torque, so i think a 2.0 8v with a close ratio F16 will do the job. Also, its not all about the power. If you look about and get some really good suspension, then you will be able to carry speed thru the corners better too. There's alot to think about and if its a track car then you certainly have more to think about than simply shoving a big engine into it!
