need to fix it to sell

Post by jonesy9 »

orite guys
iv written on here before about this problem so you mite be gettin bored of me by now!
any ideas what is the matter with my 1.2 sxi...
it hesitates on acceleration even at really low speeds and the engine management light comes on when going around 70mph, the revs reach a point where the car does not pull
i have replaced:
02 sensor
CAT and middle box
speed sensor
and also there is NO faults coming up on the diagnostics!

I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT COULD BE THAT THE CLUTCH IS SLIPPING BECAUSE THERE IS OIL LEAKING ON TO IT?
OR SHALL I CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY?
OR WHAT ELSE CAN IT BE?

thanks in advance!

Sounds like the annoying Mass Air Flow Meter again.

Has the same problem with mine. Changed every sensor but unlucky for me also had a faulty ECU that was damaged by two wires between the ECU and Air Flow Meter that was shorting out.

I'd certainly change the air flow meter next.

i'm afraid i have no experience with this engine! :( In the x14/16, it could possibly be the throttle position sensor. is it a 16 or 8v 1.2??

Cleaning the TB doesnt sound like it will make a difference. Have you tried changing the fuel filter?? thats a possiblity you know, if its clogged...it may not be getting the required fuel pressure.

Whats the engine code? X12XE ?

If so will be Air Flow Meter.

yeh it is..
no faults came up on the diagnostics computer and its 200notes for a air flow meter isnt it?
the EML only comes on when the engine is really struggling, not all the time...

My car was doing exactly the same thing.

I'm 90% sure it will be your Air Flow Meter. Mine never reported any faults either.

You can buy them ebay new Bosch one for around £80 or an cheap aftermarket one for around £35 but I wouldn't recommend the cheaper one as when I tryed the car hesitated more than before but never got the warning light on. Easy to change over as well.

fittted the MASS AIR FLOW METER! that problems fixed :D

BUT
the initial throttle reponse is to lose revs and nearly stall, then picks up and pulls how it should!
and when driving in 2nd doing 20/30 mph, if i lift off the accelerator, it gets all jerky? :meh:
ideas?
