unless you have seriosly modified your engine then there is no point

idealy you want a new throttlebody and cams timing gear full exhuast system and induction... etc etc
then you would chip your ecu to make the best use out of your mods
chipping a standard car wont really be worth the £600 price tag for around 5hp

insurance, well aslong as you tell them you wont have a problem, they will likely hike your premium up tho or refuse to cover you
this is really only an issue with the tiny little insurance places tho, big companys like AA or churchill arnt as bad
for my ibiza it costs me an extra £25 a year because i have had it chipped (well remapped really) and im with churchill
id stay clear of the "specialest boy racer insurances" as they usualy end up costing more (adrian flux for example)

dont fall for the sucker deals on ebay £3 quid job its just a resistor to rig ur MAF senser in to thinking its getting more air, usualy overfuels your engine.
as well as these other ones aperaring now thast are £50 which also fit to your o2 (lambda) sensor as well as your MAF whitch is apaently better than the £3 one.... but it isnt. its just the same but sounds like a better deal.
for a proper superchip ECU will be upwads from about £450+++
