My New Corsa Sport - TLC Needed - Pics Now Added!

Post by Cheater »

Hi Peeps,

Ive been a registered user on this site when i had my first car a few years back. I couldnt remember my log in details though so thought it best just to start again! :meh:

For those of you who wander what my sport used to look like when i had her, heres a few pics:

Anyway, i am picking up my new corsa sport this saturday which i was bidding on on ebay. Paid £250 but unfortunately the head gasket has blown on it. This happened to my first sport so its all old news so hopefully will have this up and running good as new in a few weeks with some much needed tlc and attention to detail.

Will be being lowered 60mm as in my first pics, and a set of 16's will be being put on. A good ole detail and valet and this should be right as rain. :D

Just need to source a head gasket kit and some other bits and bobs at a reasonable price. :meh:

Heres some pics:

Hi peeps,

Picked the car up today. A right old treck up to St Albans from Southampton!

First problem i have encountered:

When we got there, the lady owner who was selling said that we needed to take some jump leads to get it started as the battery was flat as it had been sat there for a while outside her house.

Long and short of it, we didnt get it started as there was only power to ignition only, but when going to turn the engine on, just a click and then nothing. I thought nothing of this as i thought as soon as i got it home and dry i could get it started.

Got a brand new battery from Halfrauds today, and as there is a strut brace on it taking the old battery out was too much like hard work just to get it started so i took the battery terminals off, and got some jump leads and attached the car wiring terminals to the jump leads and jump leads to the new battery.

Same as before, everything working, windows, lights etc but when turning the car over EVERYTHING goes off and you cant turn the car over again. The only wat to get power back on is to move the jump leads around a bit and try again, but nothing.

Somebody on CorsaSport Forum said the battery terminals could be faulty, or try wiring the new battery properly into the car and try it (which i am going to do tomorrow)

What i do know is it has an after market Scorpion alarm system which i think could be to do with it as immobilizer might be stopping the car starting?

So long and short of it is, jumping doesnt work directly from another car straight onto the car wiring terminals, and the new battery with jump leads directly on the car terminals doesnt work.

Any thoughts guys? :meh:

you tryed push starting it?

if it fires up then its more than likely a faulty starter motor
usualy the imobiziler would just stop the fuel pump so the engine would spin but not fire

i had a simmlar problem with my old renault megane, ignition would come on but wen tryed to start it just went dead,
only way i could bring it back to life was to use jump leads from my friends car with his engine running for extra ampage!

tryed it without his engine running it just did the same

Not tried push starting it but its hard where i live as my drive is on a hill and getting it back up just wouldnt happen!

Tried to jump start it off another car directly onto the cars wiring terminals and through the cars flat battery and exactly the same.

I think its faulty wiring terminals, but will look at starter motor too :meh:

have you tryed it with the other cars engine running?
as said i couldnt start my meggy unless the other car had its engine running, and even then he had to rev it up too!

Yeah the engine was running on the other car and gave it a little bit but not a good revving when trying to start the Corsa.

Ive searched the net and from what other people say, the battery terminals might need a good looking at to ensure maximum contact with the new battery terminals.

Its frustrating as i just picked the car up today and want to make sure all is okay before doing the head.

well if it is the battery it wont push start ether!
only other thing i could sugest would be try charging the battery with a stand alone charger

do the battery terminals or wires look corroded? try just filing some of the corrosion off.
if ya do manage to get it running a ok with ya new battery. put a blob of vasline on the terminals, will protect them from corroding again.

Ignition lights are all on, which i think it might be drawing enough from the battery to power this, i.e. side lights and interior lights etc, but the connection cables to the battery dont have a good enough contact with the battery to draw a full 12v?

Bit like trying to power a 240v appliance using thin 2v cable if ya get what i mean!

However, sometimes when i move the jump leads about on the car wiring terminals, the interior lights flicker on and off even though there is fully contact on the jump leads?

Will keep you posted chap, thanks for the help 8)

if ur battery is flat your ignition will come on and will light up as this uses about 1amps if u have evything on at once (hedlamps heaters etc etc) but when u try to start it the starter moter needs 100s of amps to run it and sounds like its just stealing all the power from the battery therefore killing eveything else
but like u said if your wiggling the leads about and the lights flicker then does sound like its not able to draw enuf power from the booster cars battery which like you said could be a bad connection,
try spraying the terminals with WD40 it may help
