Last sunday I went to brighton for the day and when i got back to Gatwick i went for a game of pool, and a pint at my local and when driving back home my brake pedal went to the floor then half a mile later, there was a grinding noise,i pulled over and investergated could'nt see anything wrong so i got it back to my house when about 300ft away from my drive my corsa grounded to a hault and wouldnt move, but i was still in gear and the car was still reading on the speedo i was doing 10 miles an hour, so i thought i might have had a gearbox issue or drive shaft problem so i got out of the car whilst it is stuck in the middle of the road and tryed to push but it was'nt moving, so at this point i was thinking of how the hell i was going to move it out of the road so traffic could get past at this point i was getting quite flustered and imbarissed cause i didnt have a clue what the hell had happened to stop it from moving, so a couple of us tryed to push it and the whole wheel come off the cv joint shaft, where you would normally have the 32mm nut holding the outer hub and wheel on, and a closer inspection showed i was missing a good three iches and the actaul hub was only sitting about half an inch on the shaft and the caliper only just holding it all togther and the slider was at its maxium hence why the brake pedal went to the floor for a short while till it had built pressure back up in the braking system so off had to come the wheel, bearing in mind people still couldn't pass take the disk off then try and move it on three wheels that didnt work due to no give in the suspension on the coilovers so we had to improvise, i went in my garage and got my trolley jack and rested it under a piece of wood and on the subframe to get it off the main road and 45mins later traffic was able to carry on, i never found the missing part or the centre cap to my alloy but im glad i can sit here and tell the story cause it probley would have ended diffrently if it fell off at speed on the motoway that day and could have done some serous damage to others following me, i dont know how it happened it could have come lose, or the cv joint could have been faulty or the weight of the alloy and the hard suspension setup could have fratured it at some point as i does have 2ltr 16v engine fitted and those cv joints do take some battering at times, but any way i know now to check everything everyweek now, to be on the safe side.
The parts i need are a set of calipers some smaller wheels 15 inch and to find out what cv joints my corsa is using so i can order the right parts and quick way of telling.
cheers glenn

Hub nuts dont just fall off but when you put it back together and tighten the nut to the correct torque setting mate.
