need more power! 1.6 16v

Post by green_machine »

hey there,
i have a 1.6 16v sport, it's had a few performance upgrades e.g. dblias inlet manifold, k&n air filter, exhaust, lightened flywheel. i'm not sure how much bhp it has now, anyone have any rough guess?
the car is quite heavy due to i.c.e. but i dont want any weight loss because i love the i.c.e. lol. so any ideas what i should do next for a nice big power increase?
thanks

Ooooo depends how much Moolah u got to spend, couple of options open to ya

Throttle bodies, would be sweet, can do it cheapish 2, speak to a company called Bog Brothers (stick a screamin cam in there 2)

Engine conversion, dont bother with the red top, might aswell find a cav turbo lump and stick that in, need some major chassis, steering and breaking upgrades along with that.

Naaaaa can get them well cheaper than that, make your own mate Cherex is the man to speak to, i recon you can do it 4 less than £500 using R1 boddies, i was looking at doing it... but im a lazy f**k and it never got done!

Look at this for research..... might be interesting for you as our engines are the same

Ben thank you for your email sorry for the delay in my reply I have been off with the flu, I have listed below the spec for both the stage 2 and stage 3 engine and as much info as I can but if you need any help or advice just call me on 01375 378606 or email I will be glad to help you ,all the best Ian.

Stage 2 engine spec X16Xe engine.
The stage 2 is a full strip down and rebuild and all the gaskets and seals are replaced throughout the engine , the cylinder block and cylinder head and all related parts are acid dipped and chemically cleaned and painted, the crankshaft , flywheel and pistons and conrods are all balanced,we fit new main and big end bearings and the crankshaft is measured and polished and reground to the first oversize if required, we fit a new oil pump and all new corplugs in the engine and new pistons rings to the pistons the bores are measured and if worn the block is overbored to the first oversize and new pistons are fitted, and we take digital photos of all the work carried out the cylinder block as it is done and this is put onto a disc for you.
The cylinder head is gasflowed polished and the head face is remachinned for flatness, the valve seats are cut and the worn valve guides replaced and as with the block the head is acid dipped and chemically cleaned, the cams are checked for ware and reset in the head, and again all new seals and gaskets and corplugs are used.

The cost for the stage 2 engine is £1465.00 plus vat.

Stage 3 engine spec X16Xe engine.
The stage 3 has all the above plus the fast road cam kit fitted we use the Kent COR1602 sport injection cams this can give as much as 12bhp over and above the standard cams, this is the difference between the stage 2 and stage 3.

The cost for the Stage 3 engine is £1865.00 plus vat.

Please can you tell me what the stage tow engine consists of doing? Also what sort of time period would it take, I like in the isle of man you see so I’d actually have to take time out from work to get to you.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Guys,

Just stumbled across your website and I think you have a really good idea and product. My only problem is I drive a Vauxhall! Do you know of any one offering the same service as you but specializing in Vauxhall? I want to buy a stage 2, X16Xe for my Corsa GSi.

Much appreciated.

Cheers for the info mate might look at getting him 2 rebuild my engine now. Drove my mate audi S3 earlier today and now I want my car to be quicker than his S3 which is quick to say the least.

I was always under the impression that re-mapping just makes performance upgrades work to their manimum potential.... not much point doin it until absolutly everything is done, prob will add power tho
