cleaned idle control, now its running too fast

Post by deadliner »

ive cleaned out all the gunk in the idle control value because it was running too low, started the car up and now its running very high, dont have to put nothing on the accelarator, i could easily drive off on the clutch without stalling. when the car is stationary, the idle is very high still.

any ideas?

have a look where the accelrator cable opens the throttle, theres a little peg that u can use to tighten the cable up, check it isnt too tight

Or check you dont have an air leak, spray some WD40 around the ICV and see if the engine revs return to normal for a couple of seconds then rev back up....

If youve cleaned it and its not idleing irratic its not fualty so theres no need to replace it I would sugest disconecting the battery for a few hours or evernight would be best. This clears the memory in the ECU when you reconnect the battery and start it up let it idle untill the engine warms up and the revs drop. the revs might go up and down abit while your waiting but this is the ECU learning where the new base idle is then go for a drive making sure you drive through the full rev range and through all the gears the ECU has to learn how to run the engine.
