lights gone behind dash etc!!
I was wondering if anyone has experiences this b4 ...i installed a new head unit in my car and when it was put in... the lights behind my heater panel aren't working .also my clock/temp reading does not hold memory..so doesnt read time anymore.... i think the cd player is only using 2 3rds of the connector block, so does anyone else have this problem and how can i over come this ???? cheers

Re: lights gone behind dash etc!!
i have this problem with my headunit. it shows the time and temperature on the centre console panel but not the date in the centre. a friend told me it was something to do with the way certain headunits are wired up but im still looking for a remedy as i would like to be able to see the date on the centre rather than just a blank space. if its ther it might aswel be in use! lol ........

Re: lights gone behind dash etc!!
I've found a page on the internet earlier last year but now lost it about this.
It is possible to stop the display date from going blank when the aftermarket headunit is turned on. I think i remember it saying it's just a case of cutting one of the wires that goes to the display (or breaking one of the pins on the back of the display) but don't know which one.
The date dissapears because it's still receieving a signal from the headunit that it's turned on and therefor would be displaying the information from the standard original radio.
I have a PDF document which is a guide to installing a MFD into a corsa without already and has the following pin information.
Pin 1: 12V constant
Pin 2: outside temperature sensor
Pin 3: Ground
Pin 4: outside temperature sensor
Pin 5: 12V contact
Pin 6: Lighting
Pin 7: Lighting rheostat
Pin 8: Radio
Pin 9: Radio
Pin 10: Radio
Pin 11: Radio
Pin 12: Speed Sensor (up to 53 Kh / h)
So maybe if Pins 8,9,10 & 11 were not to work (be cut) the display will always show the date no mattre what. (As if the radio is off) ???
Dan.

na .. i mean ..the corsa connector block has three sections but my headunit only uses 2 of the sections ... i think this is why ..i cannot get the time up,date ,temp, or radio display ... or any lighting behind the dash instruments !!!!! when i start my car up .. the clock works it just starts from zero ... so i can use it as a timer to get to places ...so i know it takes me 11 minutes to get to work in the morning .. but its really annoying .. i may just go to halfords to get these guys to check it out !!!

Re: lights gone behind dash etc!!
The Mutlifuntion Display is complete indipendant device. Having an aftermarket or not radio at all will not affect it's operation. It's only the standard vauxhall radios that use the middle display.
I have an aftermarket radio in mine and only users the two blocks not three and my MFD still works. Now either the wireing has been messed up somewhere down the cars life or could well be just a fuse thats gone as the MFD still needs power then the ignition is off (lights off etc)
If you think your lights have fused behind the heater controls then the speedo will not work as well. This happened to me when changing the bulbs (had it switched on at the time) and heard a fuse blow. When this happened my speedo was lifeless untill I replaced the switch.
Most commanly the bulbs have just blown and need replacing.
Hope this can be of help.
Danny.

ahh thanks fella ....what is the top block 4 then ?????? as in the top peice of connector block ....i can replace bulbs easily but as for the MFD .... is there a fuse for it in the fuse board ? .. the thing is though, the lights behind the MFD still work and alsothe MFD clock works whn the ignition is on but just does not hold memory whilst the engine is off ..so every time i start up my car the clock reads 00:00 and starts from there !!!!! i'll do some re-search !!!

Im sure you can just buy the proper joining harness from the likes of Halfrauds, which will stop all this happening. Again im sure there about £20 plug in connector block, that is made to power up your clocks/info etc.

Re: lights gone behind dash etc!!
Right guys after having a look through this post i took a look at the wires behind the centre display. i had the problem that the date wasnt showing with my aftermarket headunit. i glad to say that after clipping a few wires ive found the one that connects to the headunit and hey presto!!! it now works lol simple 2 minute job and works fine i took a few pictures for you cos im sure im not the only one that has this problem.........
first step is to unscrew the centre display, there are 2 screws behind the two heater vents on the dash, just use a flathead screwdriver to pop them off there hinges once they are pulled forwards the screws are displayed straight behind them.
once you have the display loose the second job is to peel off the foamy stuff attached to all the wires (this will make it easier to see exactly wot wire your snipping)
when you have the wires exposed you will find that there are three different red wires these are: red/brown, solid red and red/gray the red/grey wire is the one you need to cut. once youve cut it i would stick some insulation tape over each end just to be safe.
heres the picture to help you:-------
as you can see from the above picture i snipped the blue wire first but found that was the temperature display wire, luckily the red/grey one was my second attempt and that was the one!
Heres my fully functioning centre display this was takin with the headunit running and its all still working. it also holds its memory so result!!!!!!!
i know some of you guys are having trouble with the display not holding memory but as for this problem im not to sure wot the cause is but wil try and find out for you!
hope this helps you lot!!!.................
