is it possible to simply swap the crappy 3 cylinder engine for any of the other engine models or would you have to basically change all of the setup?
the reason I'm asking is that my car has been waiting on a new oil pump from vauxhall since september and the 3 cylinder engine seems to be a bit rare. The mechanic at the garage said he wouldnt put a different engine in cos you would have to change everything else and not just the engine itself.
also if anyone does have a knowingly working oil pump for that engine please let me know
(iv had 2 second hand ones already which havent worked)

Re: envoy 3 cylinder engine swap?
amte honestly change the engine, if its the 1.0l 3cylinder engine i know countless people who have had nuffin but problems with them, i sumtimes work at the local vaux spares here and they had 14 of these engines, and they still got them since 2005 coz no one wants one, if its 12v one u can fit 1.2 1.4 and possibly 1.6 12v's in there, but 8v should also fit with a bit fiddling, one engine is over to one side than the other but cnt rememeber which way

Re: envoy 3 cylinder engine swap?
yeah its the 1.0l engine. I think I would only go 1.2 or 1.4 if i was going to do anything cos then i could possibly afford the insurance! or would i get more of a profit when i sell if it has a bigger engine?
Any ideas on price for buying and fitting? I'm just trying to decide whether it would be worth my while or whether I might aswell just sell it as scrap.
I should have spent more time thinking about this sooner when i actually had some money saved but i cant change that now so i just need to think of whats best financially in the long run.

i dont think it makes that much difference in profit if u put bigger engine in...if u sell it as a 1.0 or 1.2 theres a bigger market for it..coz theres always gonna be pople looking for a small engined first car or at the moment with the credit crunch people will be looking for smaller engines as they are cheaper to run.

insurance might not be a bigger change. i got a quoe for a 1.2 8v ls corsa and a 1.4 version of the same car, the 1.4 was only £20 more!!!!

Re: envoy 3 cylinder engine swap?
it was a long time ago so i will hopefully be able to recall it correctly. this is what i think the mechanic said:scotty cav turbo wrote:Vauxhall cant get an oil pump for that?? Strange..... Whats actually up with the engine, why you changing the oil pump....
a spark plug burnt out and fell apart into the cylinder so a second hand bottom half of the engine was put it. then the cam tensioner on the exchanged part wasnt working properly so the timing was all over the place.
that got fixed by putting my original one back in but now when the engine gets to working temperature it loses compression. so hes decided that the oil pump mustnt be working properly.
i hope that makes sense! i have a basic undertanding of engines but i dont no anything about diagnosing problems.
iv been all over the internet aswell lookin for the part and i think they said it was only in that one model that was only in production for about a year. but you can aparently get it made by general motors in america whcih is what i think is suposed to be happening
