Exhaust begins to rattle/clunk after 5-10mins of driving

Post by Ting8123 »

Hey people, I drive a 1998 Corsa 1.2 and here is my problem...

I find that after ive been driving my car for upto 5-10mins, the exhaust begins to clunk/rattle/bang (sounds like its coming from the rear end of the car). However, if i turn off the engine and leave the car for say an hour, the car is back to normal :S this jsut keeps on reoccuring and i dont know wht it is because exhaustafix have said the exhaust is fully fixed (so it should be, as the whole exhaust is less than 5months old). If you have heard of this problem please could you post your solutions and ideas.

Help would be much appreciated, Thankz

your exhaust is expanding due to heat mate, try looking at your rear axel, and above the area your backbox is sitting.
but as your exhaust heats up, it gets marginally larger, so its knocking off something its close to.

Can understand the knocking on the real beam but an exhaust expanding due to heat?? Yes metal does expand when its hot, prob 0.009thou but no where near enough to make an exhaust hit lke that. More likely the exhaust is fittied wrong in the 1st place.
