Corsa 1.2 Merit with overheating issue...

Post by Grease »

Hi all...

My corsa normally runs fine and cool. While travelling it will normally just stay at around 92 degrees quite happily, whether motorway driving or otherwise. The only time the temperature used to creep above this was when in traffic or not moving, but once at a decent speed again the temperature would drop back down to around the 92 mark.

Now she is running hotter than that. I can drive it at any speed up to 50mph with the heaters on full and she won't overheat. The temperature will sit at around 96-100 degrees and fluctuates up and down within that range. If I turn the heaters off then she overheats. If I drive any faster than 50mph she overheats. The heaters are still giving out full heat and the oil and coolant levels are both fine and normal.

All ideas gratefully appreciated! :(

just a wild guess...but could just be something to do with the temp gauge..i know 2 people tht have had corsas and it kept saying it was overheating-tried loads to try and sort it out and turned out it was just the gauge malfunctioning(wow big word lol)

what the f**k? I have no idea.

Mine only overheats in really bad traffic jams or when I'm stationary for more than 5 minutes.

check your radiator is clean inside and isnt filled with gunk from dirty water. cos if it is then the water wouldnt get through and it wouldnt work properly. and check your fan is working

ok, think about having the thermostat replaced, and possibly flush the coolant system out to get rid of all the crap.

The fan comes on at around 100degrees normally, so if the fan is coming on, then the switch is fine. I would possibly think of replacing the sensor for the temp gauge too.

I had the same problem with my corsa. I replaced the thermostat and now I have no problems with overheating at all, it sits around the 90, 91 degree mark constantly, no matter how long the engine has been running

Cheers guys. I'm looking at the thermostat, as i now believe that to be the problem. checked the temp gauge sensor n its fine, the engine is cooking and the pipes and radiator just getting luke warm so want to change the thermostat. Anyone got any tips on the best way of removing the "pincer" type clips on the coolant hoses and getting the hoses off? Want to drain the system and flush it out and replace the coolant. All tips would be greatfully appreciated as will be my first attempt at the job.

Hi, need some more advice with the removal of the crankshaft pulley, timing belt & sprockets?

Going to need to get the right n best tools for the job if anyone can recommend them? Also, is it quite starightforward with the right tools? Never worked on these parts before & don't want to risk damaging the engine if something is particularly fiddly, difficult or hassly...... :S
