Where do you buy your parts?

Post by Salgar »

Where does everyone buy their specific parts?

At the moment i'm looking for a inlet manifold gasket for a X16XE (because the haynes manual says if you take it off its best to put a new one on) and a idle air control valve (motor) for the same engine. Where would you buy these things? Local Vauxhall dealer? do they generally have these things in stock or do they have to order them?

Thanks

u can try vauxhall dealership but they will be really expensive most likely. Try googling stuff and shop for it on the net, one of the best places to buy if u know exactly what it is ur after. Haynes manual should be taken with a pinch of salt. Bearin in mind it was produced for mechanics first, and its in their interest to sell u a new manifold rather than try to clean it, assuming the only reason u would remove it is to clean it or because there is sumin wrong with it, hence u will need a new one. Maybe a bit biased, but hell...u get the idea.

best off trying local car spares places for example

i needed a seatbelt pre-tensioner Vauxhall wanted £247 n its not like its made by vauxhall ether its a delco part (i think)
royston auto spares (my local car spares) exactly same part was £42

again cracked rear spring vauxhall wanted £108 local autospares £38
both times both the vaux dealer and the spares shop had the parts in stock so i guess it depends on what you need

cheap as chips

Aye Vauxall are good for the bits the local factors cant get, Would always go to local factors and most of them are OE parts anyway just half the price.

I bought cheap re-manufactured discs from my local motor factors and they warped within a year. I also had the same problem with an old ford escort xr3i where they warped within months. Can't remember what make i fitted :( Shame.

I've now fitted genuine vauxhall discs 2 weeks back in the hope that i won't be changing them again this time next year.

Not experienced problems so far with any other cheap parts and hope not too!

Anyone else of this opinion or have a view? Anyone recommend any good re-manufactured makes of discs?

I get everything from VX. Pattern parts let me down far too often, plus I get a good discount aswell which helps :)
