Speed + engine light problem
Hey guys, drove my Corsa B 5dr Envoy 12v home today and as soon as i geared up into gear 4 on the dual carridge way, the acceleration just died for about half a second and the engine light came on.. then very slowly crept up in speed until i geared up to gear 5, doing about 50mph? Anyway once the acceleration kicked back in, the light dissapeared. Its like when i have my foot down the car just stops at a ceratin amount of revs and the engine managment light comes on and wont let me go any quicker..for a split second.. then it kicks in and the light turns off.. feels very sluggish..
It has 35,000 miles on it and its an X reg, any ideas?
Cheers

Re: Speed + engine light problem
As you are getting the engine management light on the dash I would sugest doing the paperclip test you should get a fault code and that will lead you in the right direction you can find info about it here http://forums.corsa-b.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=11231
Unfortunately vauxhall dicided to leave off the vital pin needed to do the paperclip in some of the later corsas so you might find you are unable to do the paperclip test on your car. It is posible to read some codes using the MFD by pressing and holding both buttons but ive not tested this and canot confirm that it works.
A common cause for this sort of problem on the 1 litre engines is the air mass flow meter but thats only stabing in the dark I need more info.
how often do you service the car oil/plugs/filters? what are the condition of the HT leads? have you had any other problems with the car?

Re: Speed + engine light problem
Only just got the car so unsure on the condition of most of the things, recently passed an MOT and had an oil+filter change
The mileage is only 35,000 on an X reg so its quite worrying
It only really happens when i floor the accelerator completely, the engine isnt revving much at all and it holds back as if i have gone down a gear without the revs going up at all, with the light coming on
Will check the air filter tomorrow and the HT leads condition
Thanks for your help

Ok so its low milage so i'll asume it in good condition if you can take a spark plug out while your checking the HT leads then it would be good to see the condition of them.
Did you try the paperclip test you need to do it, that it what is going to tell you what is wrong with the engine.

HT leads on my car are in the form of a coil pack ive noticed
It seems in good working order
Going to change plugs today so will let you know the condition of them
I need to find the location of the chip thing first for the paper clip test, will search around

it is on the fuse box mate. it located drivers side under the light switch controls...just pull the panel out and the chip is located on the left of the fuse board. looks kinda like a small computer IDE connection point.

I keep forgetting that they are coil packs I have an old 1.2 with a dizzy.
its not difficult to do the paperclip test if your having trouble making sense of the flashes then upload a video and I will have a look.

it should flash preet quickly a number of times then pause...then flash a number of times again. So for exaple two flashes, then pause, then three flashes means its fault code 23 u wanna be lookin for. pretty simple really. same as if one flash then pause, 2 flash...it fault code 12. Or just flashes 1-9 times and stops it falut codes 1 --> u wanna look up. hope u understand that, although im sure a clever monkey could be taught the principle quite easy!

Re: Speed + engine light problem
The paper clip test cannot be done on the 1 litre engine. (x10xe). If in doubt take it to a private car garage and have a fault code reader plugged in. Be alot cheaper than vauxhall.
I had the same problem with mine. Unlucky for me it then lead to even more problems just trying to get this problem fixed.
Replace the Air Mass Flow Meter. eBay your best bet. Try and buy an original Bosch one as well not some cheap aftermarket as coused my car more problems than the first place.

I replaced the spark plugs today and the old ones were fubared, the ceramic on all 3 plugs had a neat crack just above the base which opened up with pressure applied to it
If problems presist i shall invest in a new air mass flow meter
Would be ideal if i could get the error codes read, ill try and find somewhere that can do it cheap
Thanks again

Re: Speed + engine light problem
I thought it was possible on some 1l and it was just luck weather you have the pins or not.
look at this web site and try to match what your plugs look like compared to the one shown, it might help a little.

It might turn out to be the air mass flow meter, they are what ussualy cause problems on these engines. I would go to the expense of buying a bosch one from what ive heard they are just as bad as the cheap ones on ebay.

Could be a blocked fuel filter if its only doin it when you put your foot down. They are cheap and easy to replace and should be done every year or two anyway.wakey1512 wrote: It only really happens when i floor the accelerator completely, the engine isnt revving much at all and it holds back as if i have gone down
