Hey there, I've got a 2000 (X) corsa, 5 door, with the x12 engine. Now I'm not a novice when it comes to engines, I'm a motorcycle mechanic; but when it comes to cars I'm still a bit wet behind the ears. I'm wondering a few things to be honest, so here goes...
1-Whats involved in putting the x16 engine in? Or what other engines (ignoring the excellent c20 for a minute) might be more suitable? (note, i am expecting a fair bit of work, so if your reply is likely to be 'don't bother'...er...don't bother )
2-How interchangeable are the anti-roll bars from the sportier models or from anything with a better arb t be honest, also I heard that some don't have a rear ARB but all mounting points are in place...True, false??
3-What other bumpers will fit?? GSi, SRi etc... Bit of a mad idea maybe, but what about Tigra bumpers?!? (I hit a badger and got rear ended in the same day, so new bumpers are a must anyway, just thought of changing the look a bit in the process)
4-What brakes, suspension etc will fit off other models, even off like an astra or something maybe....
5-Last but not least, for the moment anyway, what wheels will fill the arches a bit better?? I'd like to stick with steel wheels, but thats not set in stone, I definitely don't wanna go down the modern 17s route. Maybe just change the offset, or slightly wider. Don't really wanna go bigger than 14 or 15's (she's on 13's at da mo)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I await your replies...I hope...
Thank you

Re: Interchangeability
Hello mate.
1) The x16 engine is a really easy swap ive done them in a day on mates cars there are now 4 of us with the x16 engine in our cars but have different modification on the engines, anyway back to the point the engine is a straight forward swap aslong as you have all the ancillaries.
2) If your going the x16 engine why not get the arb off the 1.6 car aswell there all interchangeabe.
3) The bumpers off of all the other corsa's will fit but the tigra ones wouldnt be a straight forward fit you would have to put a whole tigra front end on the car.
4) The 1.6 brakes would be fine if your staying with a 1.6 engine but maybe use some EBC Greenstuff pads to help with that extra bite and i'd chanes the rear drums to discs easily done with either a conversion kit or a rear beam off a mk3 astra GSi.
5) If you want to stick with steels then try some from a mk3 astra.
Hope this helps

Re: Interchangeability
leg-end!! Thats a great help thanks mate, local know it alls are muppets fairplay. Sorry to be a pain in the arse but like i said not great with car stuff, so is the rear beam from the astra an easy swap? Also if you could add a little more detail on the engine swap (eg. what you mean by ancillaries, whether or not i need the box and shafts etc., whats the difference in the mountings etc...) that'd be brilliant... Oooh, also are polybushes really worth the extra money over standard rubber, she handles like an effin boat at da mo?!? Thanks again, good man...
