Re: GSi 8v build - Cam ordered
I have today ordered my new Cam and Followers.
Newman Cams 'Fast Road/Rally'.
Should do the job nicely. I am also giving them the spare head to port and polish, then swap everything off the current head onto the new one.
Should be interesting. I need to get a new headgasket and timing belt, then it should be sweet as a nut, and run much better.
Expecting to go and collect the kit on Thursday morning.

Re: GSi 8v build - Washe and photo'd...
Well the kit has arrived at the place iv ordered it from, but i cant get there to pick it up until monday...so thats a bit crap. Not that there is any rush as i cant afford to put it in yet anyways, as i need about £150 worth of head work doing to my spare head. So i have a feeling its gonna be after PVS. Just get it tidied up for now and see what i can get sorted.
Its sat waiting for me anyways!

Re: GSi 8v build - Cam arrived...
Friday 8th May
Well, the day has finally come. First step into dragging the engine into action. My Newman Performance Camshaft and Followers have been collected from AB Garage. They also now have my spare head to start work on over the next month or so, and then hopefully i will have some money to spend on getting everything sorted and on the car. The Cam itself is designed for DCOE Twins so should be fine and dandy for my setup.
And i also got my vectra wheels back from bead blasting too! Thanks for Mark Graham for an excellent job!
So all fine and dandy, if a little expensive today. Just got to get the cash together to get the cam in and sorted now. Got to put all i can aside for the next few months, but i have got insurance and tax to pay in the next 2 months too. Grr. Ah well, im sure i will find it from somewhere.

Re: GSi 8v build - Newman cam has arrived!
sure am, just want it right. I havent worked it our proper, but i have probs spent just over £3k on it. there or there abouts. i dont think i have hit £3k yet, but am pretty close. was £2.5k ish when i got it on the road.
Took it for a drive Saturday night, and following a pretty enjoyable sprint through willaston, i managed to snap the alternator bracket, and also, the dizzy cap filled with dust from the distributor and it started to horribly misfire, so much so that it was undrivable. I thought i'd cooked plugs or something, but after we cleaned the dizzy cap up, it was a little better. I then gave it some WD40 whilst i was in work Sunday and cleaned it properly. So i now need a dust cover for the dizzy ( i had one but i chucked it wit the old dizzy). The alternator bracket was sorted with the assistance of adam.
Is okay now, i want the cam sorting and to try and find this part.

Re: GSi 8v build - Wheels painted...
Well, having a day off with the sun out...i thought it was be a superb day to paint my SRi wheels. I was windy, which pissed me off at times, but that cant really be helped. With them already having been shot blasted, i only had to prime and paint them, and as they were going white...it was nice and simple.
So, first up, the primer. 2 cans used...ncie thin layer just to give the paint something. Maybe should have used some high build too, but didnt...so thats that.
And, once they were done, i then applied the Appliance Gloss white paint. This is the same stuff i used on the cesaros and they came out and are still great, so why not the same again?
Am pleased with the initial finish. may need some wet rub with 2000grit, but i have got plenty of time before i can afford tyres, so doesnt matter.

Re: GSi 8v build - Newman cam has arrived!
well if they go...the money will get the cam fitted. If they dont and i get money for the tyres first, then i will keep them and use them.
just one of those mental conundrums. and now i've decided to get rid of them and half of me wants to keep them, its annoying me.
i dont actually know what im doing. Atm, i just know i want my cam fitted, and the car running right.
