Hey,
Just recieved my pipercross airfilter today and when i went to fit it i noticed that if i fitted it the bonnet wouldnt close. So im looking to take out the airbox completely so ther is plenty of room for it however ther is a red wire comin from the side of the airbox and ther is a pipe comin frm the engine to the bottom of the airbox, any1 kno what these do and how i could remove the airbox without messing anything up.
cheers

Re: airbox
The airbox can be removed no problem, the little red wire is a suction wire if you disconect it while the engine is running you will feel it suck air in this operates the little flap in the airbox. If you follow the wire back you can remove it but it needs to be blocked so it can't suck any air in.
Im not sure what you mean by the pipe from the engine what part of the engine does it go to? can you take a picture

Re: airbox
What you bock it off with is up to you but it got to be air tight and it cant rattle itself off after 100 miles. try and find or make a plastic cap or rubber stopper that would fit you might want to put it back to standard one day so I wouldnt go super glueing stuff.
I would advise you go out and buy some aluminium ducting so that you can channel the cool air from the front grill to your air filter, that way you won't get flat spots from sucking in warm air from the engine bay.

Re: airbox
Hey, i didnt drill holes in coz i think it looks abit tacky and dont know how tht wud go dwn wen it comes to th mot lol.
as for the airbox iv just completely removed it nd attached the air filter as ther is now plenty of room.
still not sure what the tube was for i think it mayb sumit to do with the engine temp. it was jus a spring going from the engine to the airbox which had a tube covering it. the car now has a nice purr to it
here is a picture of wt i meant witht he tube

Re: airbox
That pipe is there to pull warm air from the exhaust manifold into the air intake its spose to help your engine warm up quicker the flap in the airbox closes once the car is warmed up to block off this pipe.
You can remove it, it won't make any difference, even with the standard airbox it doesn't seem to make any difference.
I still recomend some ducting to channel cold air to your filter, if you look in your picture you can see the hard plastic tube that goes from the front crossmember to the original airbox. This is what used to keep the air that your car sucked in nice and cool, but now your new air filter sucks in nasty warm air fom next to the engine.
