i have same problem here mate, EGR vavle needs replacing, but cos of work and college colliding, i have no time to get it sorted, luckily my warranty covers the part which is 80 quid i think excluding labour, but i do know you can do away with a EGR valve and blank it off with a homemade plate, i saw a tut on it before somewhere. im not sure where it is tho on your block.
im also not sure if it affects performance with a malfuctioning egr valve, anyone know?

If you blank the EGR off and remove it completely, you need to get the ecu re-programmed, quick fix any vauxhall dealership can do, but you can put a plate between and leave the valve on and connected, just buy a plate with the coolant hole in it, ( £12 + postage off ebay ) though you will need another gasket, i did this to mine 4 years ago, no problems as yet!!

1200 16v sxi, the valve is on the right hand side of the head/block at the top, its a 10-15 minute job to replace :D

Hello all.

I didn't see the piont in creating a new topic as this was already in place.

I was told by the garage that i needed a new EGR valve and they quoted me £150 for the job!!

So before i start looking for a replacement valve (for cheaper than the above quote!) i thought i would have a go at cleaning the existing one first.

A few questions,

How easy is it to remove the valve?

What should i use to clean it with? Carb cleaner, WD40 or petrol?

I think i read somewhere that there is a good chance i will brake the gasket if i remove the valve, is this true?

The car is a 2000 1.0 X10XE.

Hope you can help!

Thanks,

Chris.
