A couple of cheap performance mods off ebay - do they work?
Hi every1. I was browsing ebay 2day and came across a couple of interesting mods. One is a kind of fake chip type thing that supposedly gives a load more horses for £2! Link below:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-Performa ... 7C294%3A50
And one is a turbo fan for inside the air tube link below:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-VAUXHALL-OPEL ... 7C294%3A50
Now i know you guys (and girls) are way more in the know about this stuff than me so before i waste my money on them, would they actually work at all? And are they a good idea, like will they screw my engine up and things?
Thanks in advance

The "Performance Module Chip" is just a resistor which you can by 100 of for £2
all it will do use make you burn more petrol.
The "TURBO SUPERCHARGER INTAKE" I find quite funny
A supercharger would increase power but there is no way that little plastic thing that looks like a computer cooling fan is gonna produce and pressure. It may work slightly but you won't be able to notice it, maybe a 1% power increase.

Lol yeh that wud be great but the insurance for a 2 litre redtop at 17 would be astronomic. And its very expensive to convert as all the running gear and transmission would need to be changed. Whilst we're on the subject, how much would a redtop conversion cost with all the neccessary parts and the labout to fit them all?

Engine conversion your gonna be looking at £300 - £400 to get someone to do it and thats if you supply engine and gearbox yourself.
Conversion included the price of a rebuilt engine and gear box around £1000.
Everybody likes to have fun with thier cars, but your 17 enjoy the car you have.
In a few years you might be able to afford a second car you can play around with, my friend works for deamon tweaks and has hundreds of phone calls from idiots who have made a mess of adding performance parts to thier only car and can't get to work.

For a real supercharger kit say a rotex one its about 2 grand plus fitting.
as for them resistor chips again waste of time, all they do is "fool" the MAF sensor, which tells the ECU your geting more air so it adds more fuel
but as there is no air to burn the extra fuel it gets wasted!
a remap or a proper superchip will set you back about £350 -£400 and will give you an extra say 10%
best way to increase perfomance is handling, (unless you can afford a engine conversion)
new lighter wheels with low profile tyres, lower stiffer suspention, bushes and ARB.

Fair enough - i think i'll leave the engine for a while then. Its not like my car aint quick enough, i was just looking to see if there was a quick/cheap way to make it better but i guess not. And to the guy that sed wtf about a 2.0 litre at 17: no i aint an idiot chav, i was just checking the prices and things and seeing whats the best way to go as far as mods are concerned.
Thanks for your input everyone, been a big help
