I think there is good and bad points of lowering or getting bigger rims. Tbh id like to lower my car on my steelies (dont ask why) but not too much - some people have slammed theres and it just looks stupid. And rims up to 16s are ok but anything bigger will just look embarrassing and probably make your car handle like sh*t. Thats my opinion though

Bigger rims shouldn't make your car handle bad at all. in fact, you should find that the handling will improve because there will be a lot less flexing in the tyre wall. The ride quality might decrease due to less spring in the tyres, but the handling certainly shouldn't get worse. I've gone from 15" steelies to 18" alloys on my other car and the handling has improved.

As mentioned before, just ensure that you get the correct tyre wall size for the new rim or the rolling distance will increase putting your speedo out slightly or causing rubbing when under load.
