Does anyone know why the search isn't working? Every time I try it it says it's not available. Just trying to find some help for my mate who's car has actually stopped working completely about a week after mine was overheating. Not much luck really.
Anyway, it's a 1lt ectotech 3 cylinder (hahahahaha....) and earlier today it died. The starter motor wouldn't turn over at all and the electrics were playing up. The hazards wouldn't work for a bit, then they did but the clock flickered while they were working. There was a funny sound instead of the hazards working(like a robotic frog) etc. The head lights would come on dim then fade to almost nothing. We jumped started it with leads from my car and it started fine, and ran fine. Then we took it for a drive to charge up why I presumed was mainly a flat battery. Anyway, it's not the fastest car anyway but it was really struggling the whole time. When you floor the accelerator while stationary it takes a good 3-5 seconds for it to rev up and when you floor it on the road you slow down(fastest acceleration is mid throttle). When the car got back to house it turned off and then wouldn't even turn over again. Intermittent electrical faults too. Power steering failed for a bit while parking, then worked. Engine warning light flashed on then went off a little while later.
Basically, is this a known fault or are the electrics foobarred? I thought the power thing might be the distributer, but I don't think it could cause the electrical issue. Any way to reset the ECU, if it is that?
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Search anyone?
Definately an electrical fault things I would check
-Battery connections are they corroded or loose peal back a but of the plastic and see if they are corroded inside.
-Earth strap check that the battery is earth to the chassis is this corroded or loose.
-Battery is it duff, my local parts shop tests batteries for free infact he won't sell me a new one without testing the old one.
-Alternator does it charge ther battery, borrow a multimeter from someone set it to volts and put it across the battery terminals with the car running, it should have a voltage of about 14 volts, turn the light on full and it should still be at 14volts.
-Check the connections to the alternator are they corroded or loose.
-Check the fuses dodgy electrics could have blown one.
alternator bushes can be replaced but you can get one from scrap for cheap enough, batteries are about £60
Oh and those engines don't have a distributor.
