Hi Everyone,
My wife's 95 Corsa Merit Auto doesn't have any reverse lights working? I've checked both bulbs and the filaments and glass seem fine, both sides. I've traced the correct fuse, under the driver's side dash, and again that seems fine. According to the manual, the same fuse controls the Central Locking (which we don't have) and the automatic transmission. Its got the correct fuse in it (20amp). So just to be sure I started it up without that fuse. The Auto light started flashing on the dash, until I replaced the fuse. So I'm confident it's not that.
Any ideas what could be stopping the reverse lights working? All other lights are working fine.
Cheers

Re: REVERSE LIGHT NOT WORKING ON AUTOMATIC
Have you tried pulling the wiring connector out andback in a few times. Might just be a bit of dirt on it's contact point. Try removing the bulbs and try scrapping the metal connector at the bottom. (Not while car's on though)
Also take the bulbs out and try connecting them upto a battery. Best with two people this one. Connect one wire to the bottom of the bulb and the other wire to the side and both down to the battery. Doesn't matter which way round you put the wires as your only testing the bulbs. This will tell you if the bulbs have gone ornot. I work at Halfords and find quite often that although the fillament looks ok the bulb has actually gone with a hairline crackin the fillament (not noticeable unless you know what your looking for).
Hope this helps

Re: REVERSE LIGHT NOT WORKING ON AUTOMATIC
Hi,
Only just got round to looking at reverse bulbs. I swapped the reverse bulbs with the indicator bulbs, and they work with the hazards on! So I put both sets of bulbs back to their original place.
So, its not the fuse, and not the bulbs. The bulb carrier is clean and doesn't seem to have any dirt or corrosion on it. Neither do the wire connectors going into the bulb carriers on either side.
All other lights are working, except the two reverse! Does anyone have any other ideas, or should I get a garage to investigate now?
Thanks.

It's probably the reverse sensor in/on the gear stick.

Thanks. I thought it might be something similar, but as I've never had an auto, it was just a guess.
I've ripped the cover off the Auto Stick to look for a button or switch, any idea what I should be looking for ?

No idea! It might look similar to the one which (might be) fitted to the handbrake. It could even be underneath the car.

Reverse switch will be attached to the gearbox itself, I'm not sure where exactly on the autobox they are, but look for a plug connector with 2 wires.
