It controls the orange flap inside the airbox, you can disconnect the thin hose that goes to it but make sure you plug it with something as its a vacuum hose and you don't want it sucking anything in.

ok ive unplugged the sensor, thank you soo much by the way!

just one more question....if i take this pipe off it leaves an opening on the bottom of the engine. is that ok?! it goes from the engine where the opening is, under the airbox and up towards where the sensor is

You can remove that other pipe aswell and you can just leave the hole that it connected to open.

All it does is when the engine is cold the thin vacuum tube moves the flap inside the airbox, the flap blocks the the cold air feed and sucks air through the pipe instead which is connected to the engine by the exhaust so it sucks in warm air. Its to help the engine warm up quicker when the engine is warm the flap moves and the pipe isn't used, you can remove all this with no problems.

What air filter are you putting in I sugget that you get some a large pipe and put one end by the grill in the bumper and the other end against your air filter, that way the engine will be sucking up cold air, instead of warm air from around the engine bay. Sucking up warm air can give you a loss of performance thats why turbo chargers have inter coolers to cool down the air.

I removed my airbox from my corsa and put an apiro air filter on a few days ago. Then last night i was driving about and the car cut out on me. Do you think the new filter would have caused this. I thought it maybe gettin too much air. Any suggestions?

cheers
