Making two corsa's into one

Post by LORDPSK »

I have bought a 1996 Corsa B LS 1.2 with damage to the locks after an attempted theft, I also bought the same year and type of car accident damaged to take any parts off I needed.

I decided to take the steering cowl of the salavage car to swop the ignition barrels over and then all the door locks but I found the it did not have the normal little black box on the ignition for the key chip/transpoder to talk to, looking further at the key it was just a plain key with no transponder chip in.

If I still transfer the igntion key and barrel onto the other car what other components will I need to tarnsfer as well to make the car start and run ok.

You need matching chip, transponder and ECU for the immobiliser to work, you can split the keys in two and remove the chips.
swap all the locks over then swap the chip inside the keys

Thanks for the reply, the problem is that the corsa I have bought as the doner car, starts and runs ok (except for the damaged bodywork) does not have a transponder in the key its just a plain key, also the is no black box under the ignition barrel like on the carsa which I want to swop the keys and locks onto

You don't need the chip, balck box or ECU from the doner you only need the locks and key.

leave the ECU and black box in the corsa
take the chip out of the key
fit locks from doner
put chip in doner key

leave the black box connected and tuck it inside the cowl and just keep your old key on the key ring, it doesn't need to be in the barrel for the transponder to be recognised it just has to be near the black box.
