Re: GSi 8v project - Engine...utter S***!!
carl...i would get the engine anyways for you! Keep it and get the gaskets and that redone over the next year or so, and build up a conversion kit. Then by the time you can afford to insure one, you will have a conversion ready to go!
i am gonna get the block bored to 87mm and get some new 87mm XE pistons. is about £250 for the pistons, rings and gudgeon clips, so thats all fine and dandy.
Am still annoyed over it though. Such a ballache!

Re: GSi 8v project - Engine...utter S***!!
well...more bad luck, i have lost my locking wheels nut key. Bastard! It has been a bad week with the little things this week, is pissing me off.
There is no positives to report. Engine is on hold and there is nothing else that needs sorting. I have gotta pay adam for these springs when i get paid so thats more cash gone. But they have made a difference. Defo gonna be a long month...and its going to be a few months before this block is anywhere near!
This car is once again getting to me!

Re: GSi 8v project - Engine...utter S***!!
UPDATE - PLANS
Right, i have got my head around what needs doing and what im going to do now, so thought i'd let you all know.
Plans for rebuild
- Rebore of cylinders to 87mm, increasing capacity to 2050cc and removing dish and lips from linings.
- Brand new AE/Mahle 87mm standard pattern XE pistons. Will raise the compression to 11.3 and kick the power up quite a bit. Will run the XE rods.
- SEH crank Polished up and restored. Doesnt need a regrind - has been checked and is fine.
- Heavy Duty, Holden main and big end bearings.
- ARP rod bolts, Vauxhall standard main cap bolts.
- New oil pump internals swapped into old pump casing (recommended as original casing is stronger and better quality).
- Custom Cometic head gasket to match 8v head to bored 16v block.
- Lightened Alternator drive pulley (single V).
So yea, just got to get the money together and it should be done in a couple of months. This one i have got is smoking badly and i am not sure the oil pressure is building right as the new lifters are very noisy. Need this done asap though and want the car running right so i can enjoy it before our lovely weather goes and i cant take it to wales.

Re: GSi 8v project - Engine...utter S***!!
yea its gonna be OE stuff so is gonna keep the cost from spiralling. Its not a race engine or anything...i just need it to be strong and reliable whilst giving me some pace and the poke that i dont have atm considering its a 2 litre.

Re: GSi 8v project - Engine...utter S***!!
glad you like it. its nowhere near finished yet!
the engine is gonna take some saving to get done tbh, and atm im just driving it, and its fine and dandy apart from smoke, but i dont care!
i should have enough money this month to buy the pistons and hopefully next month will mean the rest comes through. Pistons are the main expense tbh.
i will be doing some maintainance this weekend though.

Re: GSi 8v project - Engine...utter S***!!
well, bit of an update. I am turning the project around in quite a big way. Not something people would have expected...but its for the best i think.
I wont reveal it yet, but all will be told as soon as its sorted and i have the item in my possession.
I have loads of bits for sale too...so have a look in classifieds to see if there is anything of any use to you.
