Hi guys,
I have a 1994 1.2 Corsa Merit. Since buying it just over a year ago it has had a complete service, new camshaft, new tappets and new timing belt, however the engine is still making a rattling kind of sound... I can't figure out what would be causing it, wondering if any of you guys know? Also, how would it then be fixed?
I've uploaded a video including the rattling to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyDaQMvw17A
Also, the Oil light stays on for a fair few seconds after starting the car...Does this mean trouble?
Thanks,
Chris

Can't view your video as it's set as private.
Why did it need new camshaft and tappets? How many miles on the engine? I gather it's 8valve?

The tappets were getting pretty noisy so we decided to replace both. The engine has done 84k miles and yeah it is the 8 valve engine.
I've sorted the youtube video now so that you can watch it,
Chris

Re: Engine Noise..Unsure what causes it?
Chris I had a noisy car a few years back which eventually casused my car to overheat. The AA came round and said my water pump was nakerd. Upon replacement the water pump bearings had gone which caused the blades inside to break, therfore causing lack of coolant inside my car.
Before this I used a screwdriver and proded round my car engine, I thought it was the brushes going on my alternator. Worked out the noise off the water pump transmitted to the alternator.
I'm not saying it is the tappeds or isn't. Might want to check your water pump, which ain't easy cos it part of the timing belt.
I got told by my garage that the water pump a common fault. Hope it helps!

Yeah apparently the pulleys on the timing wear out after years .... mine has done 93k now and i service it myself alot ...its starting to make a rattle at idle i think it could be the pulleys or the water pump

Re: Engine Noise..Unsure what causes it?
This what happened to my car 2 years ago. Water pump nakerd, as you can see with old and new.
The bearings had gone wich caused the blades to break.
I got load of pics I have done to my car. Was thinking of putting them up pn here to show, help people out.
Got pics from doing my seats, timing belt, water pump, cylinder head, painting my brake pad and disc calipers. To doing work on the centre console to.
Anyone interested? Should I do a few threads of it? Let us know please.
