Hi guys,
I have a 1.0 12v W reg Corsa B.
I've had this problem for about a week now, when I start my car up, it runs fine for a few minuets. After that it begins to judder when I have my foot on the accelerator unless my foot is all the way down, it feels as though the car is pumping rather than running smoothly. I took it into my independant garage today, and they said they would run the laptop on it, and said it would take 30 mins, however, after about 5, they said it was fine and that they think it could be the timing chain, which they wanted £400 for to replace. After searching other forums I feel that that is a rip off, also with how they spoke to me, I feel as though somthing was dodgy.
I took the car to the garage the day before, and the owner drove it (he knows my family), he told me he wanted to run the test on it, but somone had taken his van with the laptop in it over to somwhere else. He checked under the bonnet for me anyway and said that it looked as if a sensor had been changed to cover somthing, not sure what he meant by this, however, said that I was ok to drive it, but today the other mechanics said that I would damage the car by driving it (the owner wasn't there today).
Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be, and what self checks I could do on the car?
many thanks
zef

Re: Acceleration problem
Can't help much I need a better description of what is happening.
I doubt its the chain as they get very noisy when they need replaceing, common things with this engine is the Mass Air Flow sensor can stop working and the Idle Control Motor get dirty and need cleaning. these cause running problems like low or high idle and the car bogging down before the power builds up when you press the accelerator.

Re: Acceleration problem
It happens after about 5 minuets of driving, when ever I press the accel pedal down it begins to get jerky, like its pulling back, then going normal then pulling back but quickly, it also accelerates really slowly compared to normal, especialy at top end, I maxed out at 75 mph today, when ive got upto 90-100 before and that wasnt max.

Re: Acceleration problem
Nooooo its not the chain
Or The Clutch
I Had the exact same problem last week
I have a strong feeling that when they put it on the computer they will see that it is the EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation)
This affects the acceleration alot, like when mine was faulty, id push down on the accelerator and sometimes it would be un responsive for about 2 seconds and then would judder before going smoothly
I got mine changed yesterday and now its back to normal

Re: Acceleration problem
Turns out it was actualy my cat converter, they said it normaly only happens when the car is only driven small distances and not very often, well I bought the car off my grandad, who drove it like 1nce every 2-3 weeks to the shops, which is like 3 mins away, so makes sence ^_^
cheers for the replies tho guys

Re: Acceleration problem
Fair enough but in all honesty,
if you do what i said above, you will feel the difference,
Basiclly inside that the connecters get so dirty and generally in a horrible condition the sparks igniting of them to ignite the engine start to misshap, and therefore the engine is getting all the energy it needs.
As soon as it's cleaned up it will be so more afficient.

Re: Acceleration problem
My engine managment brought up a problem with my EGR, but the AA guy i was with at the time (clutch snapped on the motorway ~_~) said not to worry since he didnt think mine even had one (2000, W reg 5 door 1.2 16v). Although i do have some problems accelerating, sometimes unresponsive for a couple of seconds.....what do you think?
