CD player suddenly stopped working

Post by james_gray »

hiya,

my car cd player when on the tuner wasnt picking up the radio stations clearly, so i thought it might be a loose connection with the aerial. so i took it out and fixed the aerial to the back keeping all the connections the same. however now it will not turn on, must have disturbed something with the power wires which i have checked. maybe the fuse? (is there a fuse for the radio where all the other fuses are found?) also the time/date/temperature display also does not come on when the car is started, is this normal without the cd player connected? i have tried connecting my brothers cd player which i know works, but that wont work and which is why i think it may be something internally with the wires...

thanks

change the fuses under the fue compartmnt. Its near your right knee in your car when you sit behind the wheel. Pull the cover off and replace the flat blade fuses, 8)

look in ur car manual theres a diagram in there, and if you look closely on the fuse compartment there all numbered.

if you want i can put a pic of the diagram on here or pm it to u.

right iv checked the fuse and its definitely not that. its intact and i tried another fuse, no luck. do u think i may have disturbed the wires on the loom connected to the car? but they all look intact...

right just been for a drive in it then, a few things weird happening.

when i have my headlights on and only when i have them on, the display with the time/date/temp works but has been re-set to default. while this is working, if someone opens a door, the display goes out but with the lights that illuminate the display still on, when the door is then again closed, the display heads back up and is visible again. also when i turn off the ignition and then turn it back on all of the time/date/temp has been re-set. the radio still doesnt work if the headlights are on. the fuse on the radio is fine. just dont see why it would suddenly just stop, i have taken the radio out of the fascia loads without any problems.

might be worth checking that you haven't bent any pins on the stereo plugs when you pushed them back together, did your stereo wiring look good when the stereo came out or has it been massacared in the past? I like to go out and buy the proper adapter plugs when i fit a stereo its sooooo much easier than chopping wires, and you don't need to mess aroung testing wire for the power feeds etc.

Try popping the airial back out, it might be a bad feed back tracking through the aerial if thats the only thing you changed, there is also usualy a fuse in the head unit itself that might be worth checking.

the fuse in the back of the radio is fine.
the wiring all looks fine and doesnt look tampered with, i bought the car two years ago with the stock headunit (i.e radio cassette).
im pretty sure all the pins are fine but i will double check later.
when i tried connecting my brothers headunit to the cars wiring loom using his own connecting plugs, it didnt work but it does work in his car. i think it might be a lose connection from the cars own connections....
if i get the cd player to work, i think it might fix the problem of the time/date/temp display problem

Yeh i think it could be a battery issue - mine did similar things when mine was on the way out. Also if you accidentally flattened your battery or disconnected a lead then it will have reset the ecu and therefore the radio so you will need to recode the radio. If the display has been reset then its likely it has lost power to it somehow so the radio will have probably also lost its power

took it to specialist.
found out to be some 30amp fuse had gone along with some wiring. something to do with the aerial and the amp it is connected to, needs replacing. thts why i wasnt getting a strong signal. dont understand why it would just happen? lol
