Tracking

Post by Saralo »

I had mine finally done!!! :D

But now if you let go of the steering wheel it'll pull straight to the left.....Now I've asked my mate and he said it's a safety thing...(Sounds reyt daft to me) When i got the car before i kerb'd it...It didnt do that :?

Does anyone know whats wrong with it?

Id say that sounds like the tracking but if uve just had that done then maybe not. Take it back the garage and ask tell them the problem and ask them 2 take a luk at the tracking again to see if they did it right. It also could be a damaged wheel; how hard did u kerb it? Was it just a little scrape or a proper whack cuz i hit a curb at 20 once and it completely bent my wheel out of shape - they tried to balance it but it was too far gone.

Chances are then that your new wheel isn't properly balanced. Where u get it from? Scrappy? Most garages have this computerized wheel-balancing machine that shud check if its ok or not. Also if u kerbed it at that speed it might be wise checking the rest of the suspension on that side of the car - front suspension beams and wishbones are very likely to crack or get bent slightly and springs can also snap on that kind of impact. A snapped spring or slightly bent wishbone wudnt completely kill the car but cud cause the tracking to still be out even after they have adjusted it.

Hope that helps

It's supposed to pull a *little* to the left so if you die at the wheel, or become incapacitated it runs into the kerb and not into oncoming traffic.

The components may look fine but could have weakness that are causing it to pull to the left, could possibly be worn wishbone bushes, my bushes were worn and the car was pulling to the right, I changed the wishbones and the car was fine and was no longer pulling to the right.

A car should run straight if you release the wheel, who ever told you your car was supposed to aim at pedestrians when you let go of the wheel is full of it,

To the op did you get the car tracked before the new wheels went on? If you did then it will need retracking,

And chances are if you curbed it enough to bend a rim that bad the subframe/bottom arm/hub/strut or track rod arm could be bent,

Nopes i didn't when i kerb'd it i f**k the tracking and the back wheel so i left the tracking because i didnt know lol and got another back wheel, then i just got the alloys. Then i went an had the tracking done.

Anyway i drove it to scarbrough yesterday and i've always had really light power steering which i asked about but i got told there's nothing wrong with it. Soooo anyway it didnt pull to the left and the steering is alot heavier (sp) :?

i'm having a similar problem with mine it was pulling to the left badly, so i took it to hiQ to get the tracking done(which was apparently 5mm out) then after a few days i realised it was still pulling. i took it back they checked it and it was ok. but when he took it for a test drive he said it was pulling both ways depending on the road and stuff. they recon its the bushes on the suspention and sum other related thing. yours could be that.

i only bought the car in may and it had just had its MOT, can someone please tell me if it should have failed its MOT and if i have any come back on this or what eva.

sorry 4 spamin. lol

lmfao, try no power steering. Mine goes allover the place, and when driving straight, i have to hold the steering wheel at a 25 degree angle to the right. Now THAT can't be right?

sorry bout that soralo I assumed it was a front that got kurbed ignore all the stuff about bent track rods etc, :shy:

It could well be a bent beam or spindle on the back still.

When you had the tracking checked did they just check the fronts or was it a full four wheel allignment check inc camber checks etc?

hey there , i have a diploma in motor vehicle and as i see it , the tracking is probably still out get it rechecked , or it could be you have a slow punchture on one of the wheels which will make it pull , when you let go of the wheel after a period of time going down the road it will eventully go towards the left as the camber of the road is slopped as to allow running water to the edges of the road towards the drains , hope this helps you if not feel free to ask me again
