Rust Spot

Post by spikeboybarrett »

Hey,

Got a couple of rust spots on the front edge of the bonnet and a little bit on the bottom doors.

Now, bodyshop guys being as they are say the only way to be rid of them is to sand down and re-spray the entire panel, usually at 100 quid a panel.

There only tiny rust spots, so not really enough to warrent a full panel re-spray, but they do make the car look a bit rough (i mean, really tiny, less than 5cm long and less than 1cm wide)

Any ideas anyone?

(also got a couple of nice big scratch/ dents going along one side of the car, will cost 90 quid for all that sorted, will post pics tonight if you want)

Go to a scrap yard, get any panel you can find with a rust spot. Preferably with a easy colour to get hold of like black or white etc.. Practice on that first if your not confident. You'll get a bonnet for like £10. So yeh sand it down till its smooth, prime back over and re-spray, try a few ways of doing things in little patches on the bonnet.

They do the whole pannel because its easier to take the pannel off and sand blast the whole thing plus if you do the whole thing you won't have missed any rust hinding under the paint. Painting a whole pannel is easier than painting a patch aswell because you don't have to blend the colour in.

You can do it yourself but be prepared to spend a lot of time working on a small area.
