The Merit 1.2
Hi all
im new to the forums and modding etc but i bought a corsa merit 3d a few month back for £200 with alloys and exhaust already on. The car is pretty tiday for its age but with abit of rust on the bonnet and passenger door.
I will have some pics up this week hopefully but some things i have done and want to do are listed below.
Things Ive done.
debadged back just need to polish itup as you can still see where the badges have been
Put in my 500w 6x9's from my old fiesta (bodged abit :p)
Alloys (already on car)
Twin Pipe Exhaust (already on car)
took un needed stuff out from the boot (spare wheel as it wernt any use / un needed tools etc and kept what i needed)
derestricted the air box slightly by removeing pipe from under the lid
Things i want to do.
possibly get an induction kit or keep standard air box and get new filter and new pipes
new oil filter
get a new passenger door as someone tried to steal the car and tried bending the door / using a spade in the side
spray the bumpers to colour code it
get new wing mirrors
get new tail lights
possibly get windows tinted
if anyone has any other suggestions or advice please let me know.
also if nyone has a 1.2 merit 8v is there anything else from the air box i need to remove any other pipe / tubes i need to remove or possibly cut to fully derestrict it ?
thanks alot and i will update this thread soon.

Re: The Merit 1.2
it will be easier to advise you on what to do once you have pics up..but best advice is to go with whatever YOU want personally..its your car,and your the one thats gotta enjoy it..just look through other project logs,or google or websites like modifiedcars.com to get ideas.
and theres no other pipes that need to be taken out to derestrict it,only other thing u can do is drill some holes in the airbox above the filter as this makes it sound much nicer.

hi dan
thanks for the reply.
i will try get some pics up tomorrow and lookin at drilling holes in the airbox does it matter if the holes are drilled on the lid of the box or as most people do drill them under the box left hand side nearest to the wing ?
thanks
Chris.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!danthemann wrote:only other thing u can do is drill some holes in the airbox above the filter as this makes it sound much nicer.
You mean BELOW the filter! If you drill it above the filter, you may as well just remove it and let all the crap into your engine! lol

Re: The Merit 1.2
Drilling the airbox will only really make it sound different. They'll be next to no performance change at all.

Re: The Merit 1.2
well it needs to be above the filter really lol..so that when it sucks the air in it still goes through the filter and not directly into the engine.

Re: The Merit 1.2
No, you drill it below the filter as the tube to the engine is above the filter.

Re: The Merit 1.2
oh i dunno lol...i know what i mean lol...basically the holes need to be in such a place that the air will still go through the filter

Re: The Merit 1.2
so i would drill left side near the wing ? and under the box at the left aswell ? also does it matter on the size of the holes ? i know that less holes less noise and more holes more noise might go and drill it in abit

Re: The Merit 1.2
Drill anywhere below the filter. And yes, bigger holes = bigger noise.

Re: The Merit 1.2
hi all
i know i started this log a wile ago but i have had issue with the car which are now sorted so i will b puttin up some pics tomorrow
i hav already done a few things to the car just basic but are as follows
orig 13" steelies with new wheel trims (lol until i get some new alloys)
new glove box from a higher spec
mfd display (doesnt work even tho its plugged in ?)
grey and black front and back seat covers to match the car colour
refitted my jbl 6x9's to parcel shelf from my old fiesta
basicly the car needs a good sorting which is the following
new passenger door as someone tried to break in to it and bent the door slightly
2 new wing mirrors as people fell over outside in the ice and nocked them off lol luckily they clipped back in to place but the manual adjuster doesnt work
bumpers needs sprayed to match the car as they are black and grey somone bodgd a black cover job
bits of rust need sanded and sprayed
new alloys
looking at getting a set of new clocks with a rev counter too
just fitted new plugs, leads and coil pack
only paid £350 for the car so i new it needed some work runs great tho very reliable.
pics will be up tomorrow but i dont havee any pics of how it was bog standard.
