Ohh Dear God

What a night last night, all day my warning light and battery ligh had been on, so i disconnected the battery and put it on charge.
Battery was fully charged so i connected it back to the car still the warning light and and indicator light were on, i had to get to rugby so i risked it n drove.

All was good for about 3 hours then all of a sudden the engine just kept revving like mad so i had to turn of the car. Tried switching it back on nothing happend except click click click.

So i had to bump start it, got it going expecting the battery light to dim down after a drive, about 20 mins later the car started bumping and getting to a certain point in each gear then revving like mad.
When the car started bumping the starter motor light (i think) would go on and off.

Anyone got any idea on whats happend??

alternator may well have given up its goat there bud....
