Re: GSi 8v project - Going 16v...
Update
Well, i thought i would give a quick update, and probably the last one whilst the 8v is in the car. i am picking the engine up tomorrow, all going well...and so by tomorrow night i want ancillaries stripped and the front in the air. Wed i can go and get ball joints and track rod ends and other bits from motor factors as i get paid, then get back, drop the engine...do some angle grinding, and other tidying things...and then get the XE in there. Woo!!
Shouldnt take too long to sort. I bought some Millers CRO 10w/40 competition running in oil from tweeks today, so thats the first 500 miles of bedding in...
should have pics of it all in the next update.

Re: GSi 8v project - Going 16v...
well what a fun day i've had...
Firstly...lets get one thing out the way...the XE is in! After getting home late with it last night, i left it in the car and went to bed. It was still being lugged about this morn when i went out at half 8 to begin my parts haul (having been paid last night), and the car was on its arse throughout (with the arches scraping on the tyres)
So, once i was back (about 10ish), adam and i were able to crack on with getting things done. So, up the car went and bits were removed as rapidly as always.
And before long, the engine was ready to come out, so out came the engine crane, and it was on the deck
Now, after we had come in and had tidied up and had tea, i was looking through the photo's and realised i hadn't taken any photos of the engine mounted up...and it was dark by then. So will have to get all that sorted tomorrow when im in the bay again and its light.
The bulkhead has been 'modified' a bit, both to enable spacing for carbs and to get some air flowing through the bay, and the battery tray ground out too (adam had a half hour of fun there - and managed to set a cloth on fire...twice!).
Unfortunately, as is always the case, there was a setback. I had bought late spec front lower arms earlier in the year, and they didnt line up because of the holes being spaced differently. And i thought i'd cracked it when i picked up the ball joints this morning...but no...because the tie rods are still early type aren't they!? Genious...
So yea, i will have to go to the scrappy tomorrow to get the tie rods. yey...
I am hoping i can give you an 'its running' update tomorrow...and maybe drivable after the exhaust is sorted on friday.
