Cable interferance problem?

Post by Jimi137 »

Hi every1. Ive just hooked a four way amp in the boot up to all of my speakers in my car. Now atm the cables are just duct-taped out of the way but soon i want to remove the trim pannels and hide them properly. The problem is everytime the stereo and the car are turned on there is a weird turbo like whine which comes from each speaker. It gets louder when reved as well. Now the amp is pretty ancient (like last centruy tech) so it could be fooked but ive also got the power cable and the front right speaker cable next to each other. Would this cause this kind of interference?

If you think they are interfering what is the best way to solve it? Do i have to run the speakers cable all the way around the front footwells to get it down the left side like the rest of the speaker cables? Or could i just slightly separate the cables to stop the problem? Finally just wondering if the remote and signal cables will interfere or is it just the power cable?

Thanks in advance

on my car i put the remote wire and the phono cables down the right hand side of thecar under the trims and the power cable down the passenger side because i suffered with the same problem, its now not a problem, ad i dont think having your speaker cables near the power cable would make any interferance, if it still interfears with the cables away from each other then the amp if f**k lol hope this helps :)

Thanks m8 - i seem 2 be getting the impression the amp is fooked anyway now tho - the rear speakers keep stopping working every so often causing a loss in bass. Im gonna have a good fiddle with it 2day and see what comes up

The amp seems fine and is working fine atm but is still making this whining noise. I'll have a try moving the cables around a bit but where can i move them 2. On the left side ive got the 2 av leads, the remote cable and the front left speaker wire and on the right ive got the power cable and the front right speakers cable. They both go down the side of the car and into the boot through the gap at the end of the rear seat bench to go into my amp. If i was to separate them then how should i do it? Caould i take one cable through the centre of the car and straight under the seat (or will that crush the cable) or do i have to take the front right speaker cable all the way around the front footwells and take it down the left side with the other signal cables?

Thanks in advance

well in my car its set up like this:

sub amp in the boot with the earth wire on the boot floor, the power cable goes down the left hand side of the car and the phono and remote wires go down the right hand side of the car

and i dont get any interferance.....
i used to but that was because i run all the wires down 1 side and because my amp was nackered (it was also ancient lol) so i got a new amp and moved the wires and its ok now....
make sure you have got a good earth and a good conection on your battery!! :D
just try moving your wires around and if it makes no difference then the problem lies with something else like your amp or maybe even your headunit......

Yeh kk thnx m8. If it is interfering im probz gonna have to get alonger cable for the front right speaker and run it around the footwells and take it down the left side. And it wudn't supprise me if it was the head unit. I didnt realize pre-outs can break on them. Its been nothing but trouble - the volume control is stupidly dodgy - like u turn it up and it goes down and jumps over volumes and settings. Its getting a pain now lol. Anyway when i feel less hungover i'll crawl out of my room and take a look at moving the cables and see if it makes a difference.

And yeh ive got an excellent battery and earth connection
