Newb wants help!

Post by Fifer_Murph »

Hello guys, friendly hello and all that, Currently weeks away from my 17th birthday and next week going to pick up my first car!

Shes a 1997 R Reg VAUXHALL Corsa 1.0 12v LS 5 Speed Manual 89k on the clock

Image
Here she is, quite a clean one when i went to have a look!

So heres the big question; what do i do with it?! 1st car and all insurance will take a stab at me if i got anything bigger engine size; But still after that bit grunt, any suggestions to give it a bit more accel and speed? Not wanting to sound like the typical boy racer, only for long distance travelling for university next year, not a chavvy character so dont want it to look chavvish

Appearance, personally i think from certain angles it looks a bit high, wanted it lowered, any suggestions to how low, myself thought 30mm springs, spot on there?
Paints getting redone when everythings done, got a good contact with a spraypainter so luck there, standard colour just a touch up, quite like the colour :D
Looking at GSI alloys, again opinions?
GSI spoiler for the back, small one?

Apart from that interiors pretty clean, being a 3dr back seats are pretty clean, looking at possibly getting new seats, REALLY like the mk5 fiesta seats, mates got one and love how they fit you snuggly, if i can get my hands on them would they fit; if i need a new railing for to fit them no problem?

Finally want to add, the car is my attempt at my first project car, the joys of being 17 and that, if you guys can offer any help im sure it will not go a miss, the guys over a pistonheads snubbed a corsa b told me to save up get something faster, CorsaB will do me a few years untill i get can get my hands on something else to play with!

Heyyyy n welcome! I wouldn't say it'll go any faster with it been a 1.0.

dan or someone will prob say strip out that makes it go faster.

Anyway it looks reyt nice and clean :D

i have a arden blue one...I've put white alloys on tinted the back windows ermmm got a chavvy exhaust lol and i think that's it...well apart from sub n speakers.

it's upto you really what ya do in'it. But yeah I'd say lower it :D

key thing is keep is subtle as its only a 1.0...just lower it,debadge, either take the rubstrips off the side-or if your having paint being done they look good colourcoded.some nice alloys..and a small backbox-id say 3in bore max.maybe window tints..keep it simple really..but obvs its up to you what ya do lol..its your car and u gotta enjoy it.

Cheers for the replys guys :D

Really just looking for suggestions guys; so everything youve said is what ive been thinking of doing so gives me that little bit confidence to it looking a lovely first car!
Debadging was always going to happen, debadged grill and boot.
when she gets painted just going to stick with same colour just give it a bit of a newer look, as i said it looks clean but theres a few bits of paint that could do with a bit of a touch up, got to expect that for the age cant expect it mint.
As for the engine, neighbour (who is helping me mod) is wanting to shove a induction kit into it, i am not 100% what this will do...Help?! Will it be useless or will it have a purpose? If so what will it really do?

Cheers

30mm is pointless u probly wont even notice the difference, it would just look like you've got a passanger in.

if you want more snug seats have a look at the sxi ones there more bucket like

as for the induction kit, i put one on my 1.2 apart from it soundin a tiny bit nicer it didnt rele make a difference if anything it made it worse, it would hessitate when you put ur foot down. either drill the air box or leave it as is. remember its a 1.0 its never gona be fast....but its better than walkin lol

just my oppinion... :)
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

So if not 30mm how much, 50/60mm?

sxi seats easy to find? Bearing in mind im up scotland have had a bit bother trying to find parts, not in corsa scene long so dont really know where to hunt?

Hmmmm, in 2 minds about the induction kit now...drilling the air box will do what exactly? And as long as it hits 70 on a m-way im happy...speed limits 70 and im only a leaner

Cheers guys

id say some 40mm springs, gsi spoiler and irmscher softstars.
i wouldn't bother trying to get it any quicker as it won't be worth it.
would be nice and tidy then.
good luck anyway
