How Do You Reduce Body Roll??

Post by beano4390 »

Hi PPl

Bit Of A Noob Needing some HELP... :D

I not a mechanic and i don't have much knowledge with a car... Give me a motorbike any day off the week and im sorted... 8)

I have just brought my first car it's a 1999 vauxhall corsa 1.2 SXI, Wondering if you could help me with it and the subject of the horrid body roll... I work in the middle of no where and it's all twisty national speed limit roads and the amount of body roll the car has going around these bends and twists is crazy ( i swear i thought i was on 2 wheels going round one corner this morning)... How can i improve this and reduce the body roll on the car, is the best way to change the shocks and springs.. I have seen these;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Corsa-B-40mm-Lowe ... 439b29253c any good and would they help??

Do the Bush's make any difference if i was to upgrade them.. Again I have seen these;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/POWERFLEX-SUSPENS ... 483455b600 Any Good??

Any other suggestions plz give them to me... I really need to sort this out... Buy the way i am on a tight bugget so i not looking for really high end racing, preformance stuff... just something to reduce the amount of roll...

Another quick question.. Do Strut Braces Make any difference to the drive of the car and does they all do the same i have seen the OMP ones they look nice but the price tag doesn't and like i said style and name isn't that big to me would this do the same;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CORSA-B- ... 5d26cd1075
Woudl this Still do the same as the bigger brand items... like i said on a tight budget

If anyone can help me on these items or any other suggestions that will help the overall handling, drive and slight preformance please help

Cheers ppl... Tom 8)

if your on a tight budget mate even 40 mm or 60mm lowering springs will make a huge difference, i have 40mm jamex springs on my corsa with standard shocks and even that made a difference, try www.racedynamics.co.uk, for the springs, i dont no wether the bushes make any difference you will have to check with some1 else :), also from what people say the strut braces make a huge difference as it strenghens the shocks and you get less body roll
hope this helps Ollie :)

Cool Thanks ryan

Think i going to lower the car then and maybe uprate the bush's at the same time see how money is at the time.. When lowering the car will it be good enough just using new lowering springs i.e the jamex ones or should i do the full lot and lose the original shocks and springs and get new uprated i.e full jamex kit.????

Regards
Tom

your better off gettin the whole kit.

the standard shocks arent made to cope with the stresses of a shorter, stiffer spring. and if you just do ur springs u'll end up having to buy new shocks when they nack up.

hello mate you should be fine with 40mm springs on standard shocks but like the other guy said you will have to replace the shocks but not as soon as a 60mm drop lol . im getting 40mm springs on my standard shock you can pick em up off of ebay for about £50 unless anyone else knows anywere cheaper . not too sure about the bushes myself but i will look into it and the strut brace to be honest i think they would all do the same thing whatever make they are.

get a full lowering kit mate , you need upgraded shocks when using smaller springs if you dnt upgrade the shocks they will nacker out and will come dangerous. you dnt really need to upgrade your bushes unless your origionals are completed perished , id defo recommend gettin a full strut brace kit ( front upper and lower and rear struts ) im gettin some when i get my car bk up and running after taking a ride in a car with them fitted . :)

Couldn't resist it, but the Corsa doesn't have Torsion bars. Only anti roll bars. (Which are different)

Front and Rear strut braces if your low on cash, but should invest a 40mm or 60mm lowering kit on ebay there about £115 but I know a few people that have them fitted and they really do make a difference visually and handling wise 8)

Cool thanks everyone think i will just do the full kit no point in buying springs changing them and then f**king up standard shocks, thats just creating more work for my self... plus for the price difference it'll prob save me some money in the long run and they will outlast how long i keep the car... hopefully :lol: :lol

Ok so

Front upper Strut Brace - I think i no how to do this (correct me if i wrong) but this it just a straight bolt on job no mods needed??

Front Lower Strut Brace - I havn't got a clue where this goes, how it fits, anything

Rear Strut Brace - Hmmm again havn't got a clue

Sorry maybe i being dumb... anyone know where i can get these from cheapish? think i asked this befor but does make/ brand name really make a difference??

If you google front lower strut brace it can give you a idea, basically it should attatch to where the bottom of the suspension basically behind the wheel hubish, the rear one if you cut around the top of the suspension (Lift the carpet in the boot up you can see two hubs either side of the boot it should connect on them, again if you google some pictures you can get an idea, a few people on here will know what to do regarding this. (Don't know too much about it)

You can get them pretty cheap on ebay really OMP is the brand everyone will recognize but cheaper alternatives should do the job just as well 8)

Just be carefull with the front strut brace. The one I bought doesn't fit because the air intake at the top of the engine is in the way. (Which I still need to send back as it's broken. :( )
