Lacking power and engine dies
when driving sometimes the power isn't instant and occasionally the engine cuts out altogether. It then takes a little while for it to start again. It passed its MOT 1st time 3 months ago so whatever it is is a fairly new problem, ive noticed a couple of times now. Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Re: Lacking power and engine dies
maybe its not getting the correct fuel to air mix, a whole in a pipe maybe? i think this would muck up the ECU and can cut out. someone correct me if im wrong.

Re: Lacking power and engine dies
its a 1996 1.2 8v (X12SZ) mate and there has been no lights come on but i wouldn't trust them for as high as i could pick the car up, because the muppet who had it before me cut wires in the dash and im yet to get them sorted.
ive also had a couple of times when it reving high for no reason, ive been planning to get it serviced for a while so i think thats the best thing i can do at the minute and see if they spot anything.
thanks for the replies
Craig

OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts
Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

Re: Lacking power and engine dies
haha cheers mate. i think a service and getting it into an auto-electrician will have to be done asap and then hopefully we'll be able to tell what the problem is!

Re: Lacking power and engine dies
just disconect the AFM its the tube after the airbox, see if that helps! if it does replace, you will find its most prob this, saves you having to go the a mech, dead easy to change. i did this job on a clk230 kompressor a while back, it wouldnt go over 40mph until i unplugged it, then replaced it.

Re: Lacking power and engine dies
sorry, just read the post again (thought it was a 16v model!)
, i would take the ICV/EGR system off, whatever you call it!
take the plenium of the SPi unit theres a canister bolted to the manifold take this off and clean it with carb cleaner, if it does no good, take the multiplug off and compare, if so replace!

Re: Lacking power and engine dies
dropped it in for a service the other day and so far so good, it responds better and hasn't cut out on me yet so we'll see how it goes from here.
thanks everyone for your suggestions though.
