Going about painting a GSI spoiler?

Post by maximus26 »

Hi, ive found a GSI spoiler at a local scrappy and ive been told i can have it for 45 quid.

I'm tempted to pick it up at the weekend, but the only probs is it is black and my corsa is flame red.
I wanna paint it and my mate said he will help me as he has a spray gun, but im just worried i wont get it the exact same colour as my car.

What you lot reckon?

if you get your paint code off your car and get the paint mixed up, and you use the right primer it shud cum out pritty close.
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

Yeah thats what my mate said, and theres a paint shop just down the road from me.
so what should i do, rub it down, laccer it, paint it and prime it?
And do you know how they fit onto the boot?
Cheers

yeah mate you wanna rub it down till its smooth and it got a key for the primer to grip to. a few coatsof primer. a few coats of paint, and when your happy with it a few coats a laquer.

as for mounting they shud come with a base plate that bolts on.

like in the pic

if not then most people just glue them on

Oh cheers mate.
Given me some confidence now :)

Yeah the guy at the scrappy said its a 2 part irmscher GSI spoiler.
So im guessing 2 part = base plate and spolier.

Its an all vox scrap yard so im guessing he knows his stuff and he said its still on the boot so i can have a look before he take it off.

Yeah the colour code is under the bonnet init, on the black plate?

I'm looking forward to getting it done now.

paint code - http://forums.corsa-b.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... ode#p85585

not sure about price but it aint cheap, proply wud have been cheaper to getmy bumper done professionally but i just wanted to try it, so i did lol

i wud deffinatly get a price from a body shop before buying the paint, you cudsave urself sum money by doin the prep work urself.
