tracking / camber

Post by green_machine »

hi there,
my corsa has 17s and is extremely low on spax coilovers. i had my track rod end ball joints changed as they had excessive play and failed the mot. but now that they have been changed, when i turn full lock in any direction, i can feel the insides of the tyres rubbing and they have been wearing down. also, i was driving quite fast at one point and let off the throttle and because it was still in gear it started to slow down so the front of the car i imagine had dipped slightly. as i started to turn a corner the car kept going straight and i almost crashed. i think this is something to with the camber or tracking but no garage will do my tracking because the car is too low. what do i do?? someone please help me

go to a place that will do your tracking , just go into your yellow pages and ring places up . i drove round to loads of garages and they said they wnt but i found one in end . or if your close enuff deamon tweeks can do it .

would you say its definately the tracking that needs done then? because some people reckon its more likely the camber when i say that it rubs when i full lock in either direction.

More ikely to be the camber imo. What offset are the wheels?

No. Offset is a wheel dimension. Ideal corsa offset is around 45, the further you are from this the more chance of problems with rubbing.
Offset is probably stamped on the inside of the wheels somewhere, i.e. et45

i totally get that guys, but the thing is, i had the same wheels before and they didnt rub. it was as soon as i got my track rod ends replaced that the insides of the tyres started rubbing. could changing the track rod end ball joints disturb the camber?

Certainly, but if we knew the offset we could let you know how to fix the problem, maybe the wheels were never suitable.
