Low Temperature Reading

Hi,
1997 1.2 8v sohc
I have been having running problems, starts when cold but a pig when hot. It as if sometghing is telling the engine/ecu that the engine is still cold and it is running on what I would have called choke all the time. The temp guage has not gone above 90, in fact not really moved at all. The heater does get hot.
Someone has told me it could be a thermostat problem, what about sensor??

Any thoughts anyone

try this mate. its how to clean the idle control valve otherwise called the automatic choke

the problem with it startin and the temp gauge cud be two completly seperate problems.

I did have two problems, one was fast idle etc, changed icv and sorted that problem, now I have another one.

you still having diffculty starting when the engines hot?

had this issue with mine it was the crank sensor
about £20 for a new 1

altho to be sure if u do have a 1.2 8v id reccomend tryin the paperclip test see what errors it gives u

my temperature guage has never moved on my car and the heater was ok but not brilliant so i decided to put a new thermostat in and now the heater is brilliant and the temperature guage now reads dead on 90 degrees........

Hi,

any comments on the below would be apprciated.
Since my last post I have left the battery disconnected over night. I have replaced the EGR, ICV and MAP. Today I started the car up and left it on tick over. After about 10-15 mins the temp gauge started rising and the engine revs dropped as I would expect, like choke dropping out. Decided to take it out for a spin and it ran the best it has for awhile (temp gauge OK, going down a bit when the cold air was going over the rad). My question is would leaving the battery off, in effect resetting the ECU make such a difference. I shall give it a run again tomorrow but I will not let it warm up first and go straight out.

Did the "paper clip" test and no faults show and no light when driving.

Resetting it would make all the difference as it would have to recalibrate to take account of the new components.
