does anybody know how to sort out the fault - code 85?
i have done a paperclip test today after my car wouldnt start and got the code 85- immobiliser wrong signal fault. does anybody know how to fix this?

does the ECU light flash when you try to start it?
could be if the chip in key is damaged then obviosly its not signaling the imobilizer to switch off hence wrong signal
if you do have a spare key, try that if not...
think back to if u have had a replacment key or if u dropped it in some water or anything that could have damaged it
could also be a fault with the imobi system its self, in which case you will need to get a specalest to have a look

i baught the car in august as a restoration project as it was abit tatty and needed alot of work doin 4 the mot, but when i got it, it came with the spare key only . when i went to see the car there wasnt a battery on so the guy put one on and it fired into life straight away, so it never has been started with the original key the whole time the previous owner had it aswel. so i dont get why it has just decided to stop working. the engine management light does flash all the time yes. it goes off if i turn the ignition off.
i am a trainee mechanic at college and even the tutors there dont know how to go about sorting it. i had the same problem with my sisters clio at the start of this year and her transponder was getin wet so i dried it out and used the fob and it was ok but since i dont have the original key will i have to go to vauxhall and get it re-programmed with a new key?

have you replaced any of the wiring around the ignition or replaced the ECU during your restoration.
You need the correct key chip, ignition transponder and ECU to dissarm the immobiliser.
vauxhall can reprogram them all for you but will charge you lots.
you can go to scrap and take the ECU, transponder and chip from a same spec corsa and replace yours.

hya, no i havent done any wiring in those areas, i have been to vauxhall yesterday and they said over £100 but my key looks different to the ones that have chips, as there is no hole for a button or led light. my key has never had a chip in and it has always started up until recently. i am going to get it back to my house tommorrow and i will disconnect everything to do with the immobiliser then plug it back in and hope it works. if not i may just have to bypass it and pay a little more for the insurance.
does anybody know if the immobiliser on these has a 12v feed or if its all done by signals?

The standard basic keys have no button or LED but do have a chip inside if you look at the top of the key there is a little slot you can stick a nife in and twist to split the key open, the chip is in one of the corners.
All corsas after 1995 have a immobiliser built into the ECU and there is no way to overide it, you can not simply supply a 12v to the correct wire it has to read a signal from the transponder ring.
You got code 85 "wrong signal" if it was a problem with the chip it would be code 85 "no or wrong code"
Wrong signal sugest to me that the code in the chip matches the transponder but this does not match the ECU. I would say the ECU has been changed butyou say you have changed anything.
Something isnt right it could be that there is now something interfering with the signal, have you installed an amp or speakers in this area or routed the cables for them in this area?

nope i havent got any sound system in at all yet as i want to take it for an mot before i do any un-standard changes to it. i will uplaod some pics later of the key if you wouldnt mind looking at them to see if you are right and that it should have a chip in.
