Hi,
I was wondering what could be the cause of vibrations in the steering wheel manifesting when the car is idling...mostly when the engine is coldish...on longer trips it stops doing that.
Also , I should mention I did wheel balancing quite recently (front-back) if that could be one of the causes. I'm thinking it's probably some worn out rubber joint in the steering column...or could it be something more serious ?

What is your idle speed? Wheels won't be the problem if you are stationary.

car doesn't have a a rev meter ...so I have no idea how many...but the engine itself runs smooth, I tried going out of the car while the steering wheel was vibrating and making noise and listened to the engine, it was just purring away, no funny noises or vibration under the hood.
The thing is I don't know where to start, what to check...it's not so easy-peasy to start taking the steering column apart... I was wondering, do you think trying to tighten the wheel nut might help ?

It did this on mine as well - i did 10k miles in it and it never caused a problem so i just simply ignored it. if its really bad and your revs keep dipping then you've got a missfire there, if the revs stay the same then your fine m8

Maybe an engine mount? worth a look anyway.
