ooops ... bearing ?

Post by PeaSXI »

Hi all,

Well about 2 week ago i got my back drivers side bearing replaced .. started hearing noises .. jacked it up today and i could literally move the wheel side to side .. thought this wasn't good. Surely it shouldn't have collapsed so soon?

They got replaced with LPB Bearings .. is it just a case of a dodgy set ... and just need to replace again .. or is my hub on its way out ?

Will attach a video of what the wheel is like if this will help ?

Cheers.

Looks more like the bearing retaining nuts are loose. Were the split pins replaced?

did u replace the little metal caps over the bearing or was it just left exposed? if the cap wasnt replaced then the recent water, salt and grit on the roads combined with the ice cud easily have shredded the bearing in a couple of weeks. just an idea

Are you talking about the hub cover / grease cover ... what fits over the nut and split pin ?

Surprisingly I don't have 1 on either side on my car :?

Will nip to the shop tomorrow and get one .. so it doesn't happen again. I guess the only reason the older bearing survived "so long" was because the weather wasn't as bad

Ta!

I don't have a hub "cover" ? What Jimi was talking about, going to replace bearing first thing in the morning.

So the bearing is knackered? Not replacing those caps is like putting your bearings in a slow blender. Make sure you pack them with suitable grease before they go back.

Yeh i made the same mistake m8 and ripped through 2 bearings in a few months. Its only when RAC came out that they noticed and told me just how important they are

Well shes back on the road ! The front smaller bearing had completely collapsed and was pretty much nothing left of it ... the only problem was the race had siezed to the axel ! Took many hours of hitting .. heating and pulling to get it off .. but finally it was off, new bearings in .. and all is well :)

Off to the scrapyard now to get the caps ... as no shops have any of them ?

Cheers.
