MFD works but 1 problem

Post by Corsa84 »

hi,yesterday i picked my new baby up,2000 w reg corsa envoy,i noticed yesterday that the MFD was black even with lights on so i replaced the 2 led's today and now it works fine.

when the standard radio is off the MFD shows time, date and temp as normal, however when i turn the standard radio on the middle bit (date) goes blank.

i thought this middle bit was supposed to show the radio stations info when the radio is on?

just to let you know i do not have the radio code so as yet i have not removed the radio, but i can get some radio stations to tune in,however they are really bad reception, and i have no idea what station it is.and it is just the standard radio cassette player thats fitted.i do not know if the previous owner fitted a aftermarket radio or not as i bought this car from a dealership.

any help/ideas?
I'd rather push a Corsa,than drive anything else. : )

if your planning on puttin a new head unit in you wont need it.

this usually happens when you put a non standard radio in, if u can have a look at the back of thehead unit and see if pin 8 (i think) is connected up properly and wot not.

when people put non standard head units in they remove pin 8 which allows the middle of the MFD lights up as usual but it can also ruin ur radio reception.
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

yeah like as said thats usually wot happends when u put a new hu in(mine does it) . so....... if the previous owner had put a new hu in and then cut pin 8 so the date appears, then he puts the standard hu back in with out fixing pin 8 that cud be ur problem.

you say standard radio, but is it? if the previous owner removed it and fitted a after market one, then took it out to sell
they may have fitted a diffrent hed unit from another vauxhall, this would be the same as fitting an after market one.
only the standard unit (standard for your modle of corsa) would work in it
as when the radio is on the date part of the MFD is used to display RDS data or CD data from the radio signal you recive so it turns the date off in order to display thiss, ince only the correct stereo will send the RDS data or CD data to the MFD, it stays blank as its effectivly waiting for a signal from your radio telling the MDF display somthing, till you turn it off again and it goes back to the date.
