ticky 1.2 16v engine?? please help

ticky 1.2 16v engine?? please help
bought a cheap 99 corsa b 1.2 16v and it has high milage 120k not sure what service work has been done to it but runs fine and power steering and brakes work alright but on cold start up the engine sounds like a diesel with the ticky noise off it anyone suggest anything to source this problem?

also seems to be an oil leak from somwer as there is oil on the drive

the ticking noise will most probably be the hydralic tappets, as you said you dont know ifs its had a service lately so give it a good service.....spark plugs...filters....and oil and see if its quitens down a bit, also the oil leak may be the sump gasket, worth replacing when your changing the oil

dont worry bout the ticking noise 2 much - its probz just the tappets. mine started doing it when i ragged it over the first few months lol

Timing Chain. Way too comman issue with the 1.0 12v (X10XE) and 1.2 16v (X12XE).
The timing chain will have become worn and will be rubbing inside the engine hence the 'ticky' sound. If the car has no history or this been done I advise that you do.

Didnt know the 1.2 16valves hd timing chains. thought that was just the baby 1.0 litres
